“Hmm maybe I can convince a certain angel to stay in the room after work,” Gamble teased.

He was mostly joking, even if he missed holding Micha throughout the night. Gamble wondered if Arden made sure to leave a small light on for the Nephilim. Micha never took the nightlight with him when he went upstairs. Gamble could always go up there, but that would mean being in Arden’s room for things outside of sex. Was he even ready for that?

“Your mouth is constantly moving; you need to get it under control.”

Gamble smirked. “Or what, you going to fix the problem for me?”

Bash’s eyes flashed, and Gamble couldn’t help but be drawn in by them. Gamble wanted to push more, but he pulled back. The sound of people chattering near them reminded him he needed to be professional.

“I hate that mask,” Bash growled out. “You shut down so damn quickly.”

Gamble raised a brow. Did Bash think he didn’t do that too? They were two sides of the same damn coin, but apparently the shifter was oblivious to that.

“Oh?” the witch asked. “What face would have me make instead?”

Bash shrugged and glanced away from Gamble. “You look better when you give a real smile, not that bullshit you give the customers.”

Gamble was caught off guard, not sure what to make of it. He faced the city, watching people walkabout and some even getting curious about the bar as he turned over Bash’s words.

Pinpricks danced along his scalp, and Gamble turned to scan the street. Someone was there. All of his playing immediately ceased. “Bash.”

“Yeah I feel it too,” the bear shifter growled.

There were powerful supernaturals that frequented Paranormal Guilty Delights, but none of them had given off such an aura. The only one Gamble could compare the amount of pressure that weighed down on his senses was Arden.

But as they both scanned the street, the feeling went away. Gamble rolled his shoulders, trying to loosen them up. He checked his phone, and sure enough, it was time to start letting people in. He needed to focus.

“Whoever it was isn’t gone,” Bash said.

Gamble nodded; he didn’t believe for a second that they were, but they had a job to do.

“Go let Arden know,” Gamble said.

Bash moved back but stopped short. Gamble glanced up and froze in place. An older-looking Arden walked toward them with purpose. He wore jeans and a short-sleeved black fitted shirt. A stark difference from what Arden wore regularly. Bash moved closer to Gamble and growled in warning.

The man stopped when he got close enough to them.

“Dragon,” Bash said.

Gamble would have to take his word for it as he didn’t have an enhanced sense of smell.

“The line starts over there,” Gamble said.

The man cocked a brow. “My brother is expecting me.”

Gamble made sure to keep his face blank, and with Bash at his side, he stood his ground. “And your name is?”

The man took a menacing step forward, and Bash mirrored it.

“Ezra,” the man said.

He and Bash were in a stare-off, one Gamble knew would turn ugly if he left it alone. Shifters were notorious for reacting, especially when it came to dominance. Gamble touched Bash, and surprisingly the bear shifter’s shoulders eased a bit.

“If you don’t mind, we need to check to make sure he is in fact expecting you,” Gamble said.

“He didn’t tell you?”

“Our boss is very busy,” Gamble said. He tugged on Bash’s arm; he needed to get him away before there was a full-on brawl out there.
