I internally sighed, not believing I was going to have to say what I was.“He has kidnapped me,”I said.“Maxim, the...”

“I am so tempted, Lacey,” the vamp said. Running his tongue where his teeth had grazed.

“The vampire,”he bellowed.

“Yes,”I rushed.“He is hovering over my neck. I’m shackled by magic of some sort and blindfolded. All so I...”I stopped talking because I didn’t want him to know the vampire had a means of incapacitating my magic.

“What I want from you, Lacey, is for you to be bound to me,” Maxim said.

“Bound,” I whispered.

“Yes, each of our kingdoms has their own method. You know yours. Mine is similar.”

“How similar?” I asked, trying to buy time.

“I will accept you, as you will me, and at the time of climax I will sink my teeth into your neck, which will make you my chosen one and a vampire. You will then reciprocate and enjoy the blood from my neck immediately afterwards. This will link us for eternity.”

“He wants me to bind to him,”I said to the Dark King.“The vampire way.”

“Why me?” My head felt woozy and light-headed, already imagining the blood loss as I floated between wanting to throw up and wishing the dark king would rescue me. Though I wasn’t sure how that one would work out.

I mean, would he rescue me? Was he straddling me and grinning at my face without me knowing because I was telling him what I had?

“It was always you. We’veallbeen waiting for you. But you made things difficult, and that’s why I took measures into my own hands.”

“All.” I hesitated as I wondered about that. “You mean the Kings.” I gasped. “You think the same as the dark king. That we're fated?”

“I don’t believe in fated mates, but I believe the gods sent you to be with me. Nobody wants you more than I want you, and that is why you are here. I’m a lot more impatient than others.”

“You’re not the dark king,” I said emphatically.

“What makes you think that?” His voice heightened, and I knew he wondered how I concluded that.

You’ve just told me.

“Just a feeling,” I said, lying.

He tutted, and I heard lips smacking together.

“Back to why you’re here,” he said.

I had to rewind the conversation as I wondered why Iwashere.Oh, yes, the crazy one thinks I’ll bind to him vampire style.

I laughed.

“It’s a lot to take in, Miss Summer, but I will give you some time to think about it,” he said. “I am a bloodline vampire, Miss Summer, and you are a goddess. You will be mine and we will produce a super race. It will be the most powerful race of all.”

His body weight lifted off my torso and at that moment I felt I had held in my breath for the entire time he had been above me.

“I’ve thought about it and it’s a no, I’m afraid,” I said.

“Now, now, Miss Summer. It would be pertinent for you to take a nap. I will come back, I will read you the full written details in an hour, and then we will reconvene our negotiations in a couple of hours when you’ve had time to consider my offer.”

“Negotiations?”

“Yes, I want you to be happy,” he said.

“As long as I say yes and you’re happier,” I spat.
