“What happened?”

“She’s afraid of guns. An incident occurred at some nightclub not that long ago.”

“So, who do we need to make disappear?”

“No one. Apparently, it’s been dealt with. Find out everything you can about the Williamson brothers in Sydney.”

“Who are they?”

“One of them is Holly’s brother-in-law, the other ownsthatnightclub.”

“Sure. What are you going to do about her fear of guns? We can’t have her passing out every time she sees one.”

“I’ll fix it. Speaking of, where’d mine go?” I ask. It wasn’t on the floor where I left it. Neo pulls my piece from his waistband and hands it over. I tuck it into the back of my pants.

“All right, I’m out. Got shit to do. You any closer to figuring out what the fuck your pops and John are up to yet?”

“Nope. But I’m suddenly very determined to put this shit to bed.”

“I bet you are,” he says as he walks back through the apartment.

I follow him in and look around. I wonder if I can convince Holly to come stay at my place with me. Because I sure as fuck won’t be spending another night in bed without her.

“Where are we going?” Holly asks.

“Don’t freak out. But we need to get you accustomed to guns, babe. You can’t pass out every time you see one. So, I’m gonna teach you how to use one.”

Holly’s face pales. “No, Theo, I can’t. Please don’t make me do this.”

“Do you trust me?”

“Probably more than I should, considering I just found out yesterday you’re betrothed to someone else.” She smirks.

“Funny. But I’m glad to hear you say that. Now, I just need you to trust me when I promise I won’t ever let anything happen to you.”

“It’s not that I don’t trust you. I don’t trust myself. And I don’t trust my fear, nor its ability to override everything I know logically.”

“I’ll be there every step of the way. You can do this. We can do this together. I might not be able to conquer these demons for you, but I’ll be right by your side when you conquer them yourself.”

“What if I pass out again?”

“Then I’ll catch you, and we will try and try again until you’ve mastered it.”

“You have way more confidence in my abilities than I do,” she says, looking down.

“I have confidence inus. There is nothing this world will ever throw at us that we can’t beat together.”

“Mmm, does one of those multi-million-dollar companies you run happen to be Hallmark?”

“No, why?”

“Because you’d make a bloody mint writing greeting cards with those lines of yours.”

“They’re not lines, just our truth.”
