Oh god!“Hazen and I are starting training,” I say quickly.

Inarian glances over at me, seeing through the lie, but I am not in the mood for him. I squeeze past Hazen and move to the dining room and up to the bar.

“Isn’t it too early to drink?” I hear Derrick comment.

I roll my eyes. After dealing with Inarian last night and now spending more time at home, I need to drink. Inarian’s words are not going to get to me. I don’t need to prove I’m worthy of hellhounds or his approval. My mind drifts to how Ozias made me feel. It felt like we were fifteen again, touching each other when no one was looking. The butterflies he gave me…

“I think training is a good idea, Asura! Maybe all the hounds can help,” my father says, coming into the room.

I shake my head, downing a glass of whiskey. “Ledger can’t help without Khazon’s permission. Inarian and Jigsaw wouldn’t help me even if I begged. It’s only me and Hazen.”

“If you want my permission, you can beg,” Khazon’s deep voice comes as he walks over beside me, pouring himself a drink.

My jaw tightens as I glance at him. What the fuck is he doing in my house?I twist to look at Ledger who is at the table, talking to Khazon’s other hounds. What are their names? Couldn’t care less.Ledger’s red eyes move to meet mine. He doesn’t say anything to me.He could have warned me. That’s all I want.

“I can help you train. I am a level two reaper,” Khazon speaks. “Or you could ask Ozias…”

My brow cocks.

“You smell like flowers,” he whispers.

I look up at him, short brown hair falling against his olive skin. I know Khazon has always had a thing for me, which has made him jealous of Ozias. I hate playing dumb. I knew both boys loved me in a way at one point. But he and Ozias never got along aside from when they were talking about me. His brown eyes meet mine. What do I say? Ask him for help after letting his girlfriend bully me and those hurtful words he said to me?

“Yeah.Maybe I can get Ozias to help.”

His eyes darken.

I grab his glass, moving away to sit with Ledger. He barely looks my way. Khazon did blackmail him into not talking to me. So he might be uneasy about it. It doesn’t bother me.

“Asura.” Khazon sits beside me before I can stop him. “Your dad asked if I could help you train, starting today.”

My eyes widen as I look to my dad who sneaks back into the kitchen.

“You’re not going to become a Soul Reaper without me.”

I scoff, looking at him. “Watch me, asshole.”

He lets out a sigh. “I didn’t—”

“Asura,” Fen interrupts, sitting across from me and next to Jigsaw and one of Khazon’s hounds. “Can I join in the training? I want to be a reaper, one day.”

I smirk, glaring at Khazon. “Got to lay off the cinnamon rolls then.”

He looks down at his plate which has three sitting on it. “Oh… Maybe I don’t want to be a reaper, then.”

Giggling, I sit back. Khazon moves away.Finally.

“But how come I see you eating it all the time, Asura? You just ate a carton of ice cream by yourself last week.”

A gasp escapes my lips “Watch it, mister, before I sick Hazen on you.”

“Like he was on you last night?” Derrick mutters.

All heads turn to him.

“What did he say?” Fen says.

“Nothing,” I say quickly. “You know how Derrick is. He needs a foot up his—”
