Heavy metal music booms through Adrian’s surround sound, startling me. I scream and run from the room, my fear taking over. I run to Ezra’s room and tug the door open, but none of them are there. So I keep going.

I call out for my alphas, expecting them to run down the hall to get to me. Music bumps through the surround sound, seemingly following me, though I know it’s set up throughout the manor. Reaching the end of the upstairs wing, I rush downstairs and into Jonah’s study. My heart can’t handle what my mind keeps throwing at it, the haunting sensation of being watched leaving me practically debilitated.

Resting my palms on his desk, I stare at the pile of essays next to his laptop. I’m afraid to keep running and searching. I need to just find somewhere to sit down to let my heart chill the fuck out.

I spot the small storage closet with shelves of books. The floor beneath them is empty, so I grab a couple of pillows from his sitting area and arrange them across the small closet floor. I crawl in and pull my blanket around me, closing the door to just sit with only the glow from his desk lamp coming through the small crack. It only takes a moment for my heart to stop racing and for me to get out my phone.

Unknown: Freaked out enough? Don’t worry, Dickasso. I’m just fucking with you. I bet you didn’t know the manor has an unlocked Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connected to the university server. Easy to screw with shit.

Anger rushes through me, and I clench my teeth, glaring at my phone.

Me: Stop texting me and just leave me the fuck alone.

Unknown: She’s not getting boned! Hallelujah.

Me: Fuck off.

Unknown: ...

A picture of a hard cock pops up on the text message, and I nearly drop my phone in exasperation. What the fuck is Chaz’s problem? He already knows I’ve bonded with my pack. I’d never be interested in him. Never. Not even if he’s an alpha—a terrible one at that. Alphas don’t get kicked out of Alpha Academy for nothing. He had to have done something that proved him incapable of deserving the responsibility of a pack and claiming an omega.

Unknown: Something for you to draw later. Maybe when you get over your obsession over old, flaccid dick. Do they even work?

Me: What is wrong with you? You’re a disgraced alpha with nothing. Give up. I wouldn’t touch you even if you were the last alpha, and I was in an endless heat cycle. Fuck off!

Unknown: Keep telling yourself that. Just wait. You’ll be screaming my name. Begging for my knot. You’ll have to work for it after all this bullshit, though. I’ll train you to be a good omega. You’ll see. Start now and apologize. Give me a peek of your pussy. Maybe I’ll let you have that shriveled old dick a moment longer before I claim you.

His text message ignites anger and disgust inside me. I can’t keep replying, despite wanting nothing more than to tell him off. I close out the message, muting all text messages and calls from people that aren’t on my approved list. I usually don’t block everyone, because sometimes Emma will text me from a new number because she had to switch for some reason or another, but I’ve had enough. I can’t let Chaz take up even another ounce of my headspace.

Minutes pass as I remain frozen and hidden in the closet. My eyes grow heavy, my exhaustion kicking in completely. The scent of Adrian’s blanket and Jonah’s pillow settles my entire body, and I drift off to sleep for who knows how long.

“I think she’s in here,” Jonah whispers, his voice pulling me from my groggy state. “I can smell her.”

I blink a few times, trying to wake up, but my eyes don’t want to remain open. The floor creaks as someone crosses the room, and soft light shines around me. Jonah cracks open the door to the closet, peering down at me.

“Scarlett, what happened? We heard the surround sound go off, and Leo went to help you fix it, but you weren’t in Adrian’s room. We’ve been searching for you for over thirty minutes.” Kneeling, Jonah fills the doorway of the closet. “You scared me.”

Digging his arms beneath me, he lifts me from my makeshift hiding spot and into his arms. Adrian stands a few feet away, his worry pinching his face. Leo pushes past him, his expression a series of hard lines. I automatically stretch out my arms, sensing his desire to hug me.

“I’m sorry,” I say, a small whine escaping my lips. “Chaz fucked with my head. I tried to find you, but couldn’t, so I hid.” I scrub my palms into my eyes, trying to push away the sleep. “I didn’t mean to fall asleep.”

Leo growls and takes me from Jonah, adjusting me in his arms like a blushing bride. “You guys need to handle him. If I do it, he won’t be breathing tomorrow.”

“Let me see your phone,” Jonah says, looking around my nest until he finds my phone on the floor, tucked in the blanket.

He and Adrian look at the screen, their eyes darkening with their anger. My heart picks up pace, and nerves bunch my stomach. I’m not sure they’re capable of handling Chaz any better than Leo in this moment. Their scents trigger something deep-seated in me, and I reach out and grab onto Adrian’s shirt, dragging him closer.

“Can we just handle it tomorrow? I could really use some cuddles.” I rub my hand along Adrian’s cheek. “Please.”

Adrian tightens his jaw and gives Jonah a silent look. He heaves out of breath and dips his chin, agreeing with my request. Voices mumble from the hallway, and I watch Ezra and Dominic enter Jonah’s office.

It’s as if the air leaves the room, the looks on their faces dark and even angrier than Adrian, Jonah, and Leo’s. I can’t help thinking that there’s more.

Actually, I know there is.

This must involve the pack meeting they had without me.

“You guys need to tell me what’s going on,” I say, straightening my back, making Leo adjust me in his embrace. “Did Chaz do something to you guys? He’s acting like a psycho, even more so now.”
