“A bullet doesn’t mean shit to me.” Onyx grinned. “If I don’t die, they are, and if I die… well, I won’t know any different, will I?” he asked her and then turned to me. “You good?” he inquired, gesturing at my drink. “You want another one?”

“No thank you,” I told him, shaking my head. “I popped out to get alittleloose. Just a little.”

He nodded. “Understandable. Special occasion I don’t know about?”

“Nope. Just felt like being out.”

“And that’s a good sign, right?”

I shrugged. “Yeah, I would say so. What are you doing here? Other than stalking me.”

“That’s the only reason I’m out,” he said. “I heard you were out here fucking ’em up, I had to come see for myself.”

“Who said that?”

He chuckled. “Everybody in this motherfucker.”

Maite groaned. “Okay, y’all are on the cute shit, so I’m out,” she said, removing herself from the booth before I could even argue.

I… hadn’t realized we were on any “cute” shit. I was just enjoying being among a crowd.

And having a certain man’s attention.

“Am I?” I asked Onyx, going back to the conversation we’d been having.

“Are you what?”

“Fucking ’em up?”

He leaned in a bit, peeking around the table to give me another slow perusal. “You are. I like the boots.”

“Thank you.”

They were actually brand new—gorgeous burgundy thigh-high beauties I’d been waiting on an opportunity to wear. An opportunity that likely would have come much sooner if my social life hadn’t been completely derailed thanks to Kev’s inability to keep his dick to himself.

Shit.

I wasn’t supposed to be thinking about that tonight.

I looked good, I felt good, and I didn’t intend to let anything throw that off.

“You having a good time?” Onyx asked and I nodded.

“I am. Do I not seem like it?”

“You seem a little quiet. More lowkey than the last time I saw you here.”

I raised an eyebrow. “You know… you’re right,” I told him. “Let’s do something about that,” I said, grabbing his hand to slide out of the booth. Onyx didn’t really have a choice except to give in to my tugging at his hand, following me to the other side of the bar where the dance floor was set up.

“You said they trained you in how to be good at everything right?” I asked, pushing up my toes to talk to him over the music.

“I did say that.” He chuckled, probably already guessing where I was going.

“Well then,” I said, stepping right up against him. “Let’s dance.”

Well… I don’t know if what we did out there on the floor could really qualify as dancingwitheach other. The DJ started playing Vanity and I went straight into the twerk that was just my body’s natural reaction, grinding my ass on him.

So it was more likeIwas dancing and he moved right along with it. A group of women passed by, hyping me up, which did exactly what they’d intended it to do.
