Thebestpartabouta day at the pool? My kids are so exhausted I don’t have tovisit the farmwith Janieorrace in the rain. We were barely able to wash the chlorine off their skin before they passed out.

When I walk into our bedroom Ellie is reading on her phone. “How was bedtime?” she asks.

“They knocked out as soon as their heads hit the pillow. I didn’t have to read or anything. I swear Camden was snoring before I even left the room.” I chuckle.

“That kid could sleep through a helicopter landing on the roof, just like his dad,” she teases.

I drag my spent body over to the bed and flop down on my stomach by her feet. “Are we doing a prompt tonight?” I ask.

“I’d like to,” she says hopefully.

“Can we do it in the shower? My skin feels nasty with the salt, sweat, and sunscreen and I’d like to knock out after.”

“Sounds good to me. Let me pick one then we’ll hop in.” She opens the book to a random page and after reading it, her cheeks redden, and she flips to another page as fast as she can.

I claw up her leg to grab the book, but she brings it to her chest. “No, no, no. Go back to that one. I want the one that made you turn that beautiful shade of red.”

“It was nothing.” She stares at me for a second before she continues to flip the pages to find another.

“No, I want to know. What was the prompt?” I reach for the book again, but she holds it so close to her chest I see her knuckles go white. I laugh. “I’m loving this new shy thing you have going on. It’s super fun. What’s the prompt, Ellie? It can’t be that bad.”

She nibbles on her bottom lip for a while before she says, “It says:Are there any sexual fantasies you haven’t shared with your partner?”

A wicked grin spreads on my face. “Well, arethere any sexual fantasies you haven’t shared with your partner?”

“Let’s talk about it in the shower,” she says, avoiding eye contact with me and kicking me off her so she can stand.

My curiosity is at an all-time high as I watch her walk to the bathroom and get undressed, all while avoiding my gaze. After the water warms up, we both step in and begin the shower tango in silence.

After she’s finished rinsing, I put my hands on her ample hips, loving the way her flesh feels under my fingers, and I pull her close to me. Her voluminous breasts flatten against my stomach as she stares up at me with timid eyes.

“Tell me, Mrs. Garcia. What sexual fantasy do you have that you haven’t yet told me about?”

There it is again — that beautiful cherry color on her cheeks appears as she bites her bottom lip and tries to avoid my gaze.

I lift her chin and lower my head so our faces are close as the warm water runs down my back. “It’s okay. You can tell me anything.”

“I’m scared you’ll look at me differently if I do,” she says softly.

“Never in a million years could any fantasy you have change how much I love you.”

“I feel like once I put it out there, I won’t be able to take it back. The thought of that is terrifying.”

“Babe. Nothing you say could change anything. Tell me.”

Swallowing hard, she nods. “I’m curious about…” she whispers softly, “back door stuff.”

I cock my head to the side and stare at her, utterly confused by what she means. After I’m smacked by the realization of what she’s asking for, my grip on her hips loosens and my eyes go wide. “Ohhhh…You mean, like, back door stuff?”

“Yes, anal.”

My throat goes dry as I rack my brain for a response, any response as she stares at me waiting. Is this a trap or a test?

“I knew I shouldn’t have said anything.” She shakes her head and backs away from me. “Forget it. You don’t have to consider it. It’s just, ever since the sex shop, and some of the toys we saw, it got me thinking. And one of the couples in my novel did it and made it sound really enjoyable, for both.” Her words are coming out on top of each other now. “I mean, I hadn’t considered it before and I don’t think you ever had either, at least you haven’t said anything to me, but…” She shakes her head, cheeks crimson, then puts her hands over her eyes and whispers. “Please forget I said anything, alright?”

A few more seconds pass as we stand there in silence. The steam is billowing around us as I think about all that she just said. It’s not that I have no interest, she’s right that I’ve just never considered it before.

I try to formulate a smart response consisting of at least a full sentence, but all that I can manage is, "Okay."
