It’s a minor detail I probably should have considered before agreeing to this fucked up plan in the first place. I’ve been reading books on how to summon them all week, but my focus hasn’t been great and I can’t remember any of the details.

“Circle charm?” Corbin suggests, bringing us back on topic.

I smile at him gratefully. I’m so glad I have him to help balance everyone else out.

“There are only three demons here,” Liam says. “You need four for a circle charm.”

“Harper can use some of your magic,” Sadie says. “She can basically be a fill in demon.”

“I’ve never seen you channel magic,” Liam says. “You think it would work?”

“I don’t see why not.” I shrug. “It’s worth a try, right?”

“Okay,” Corbin says. “Hold hands, kids.”

“I call dibs on Liam,” Damon says.

Liam grabs my hand just as Damon shuffles next to him. His grip on me tightens as Damon takes hold of his other hand.

“Please just play nice,” I say, looking at each of the males next to me.

Liam rolls his eyes and Damon smiles as if nothing would make him happier. I’m eager to get this over with.

“Try not to summon something too big,” Sadie says. “Let’s try to start small.”

“I’m not sure we’ll get much choice,” Liam says. “You sure you want to do this?”

“I have to get that pass and I’m not going to kill a classmate,” I say.

“Not even Em?” he asks.

“No,” I say. She’s terrible, and she might have tried to kill me a few times with exploding potions or whatever, but I’d never kill someone. Not again. I still cry in my shower when I think about my accident. I can’t and won’t do that to another person. Or demon. Or whatever they are. Monster who tries to kill me? Sure.

Besides, there’s that whole thing about monsters regenerating. So it’s not like I’m killing it forever. Just sending it to the depths for a while.

“As much as I enjoy this bonding time, can we move on?” Damon asks.

“I thought you wanted to hold my hand,” Liam says.

“How do we do this?” I ask before the two of them can get into it again.

“I’ll start the spell,” Corbin says. “You three send your magic to me and we’ll have a monster.”

“You can channel me,” Liam says.

“She’s better off channeling one of us,” Corbin says. “Since she’s not a demon, we shouldn’t take any chances on her getting yourothermagic.”

“Other magic?” Sadie asks.

“We’re doing this now?” Liam asks.

“You can trust her,” I say. “She won’t tell.”

“It’s like one big love fest in here,” Damon says. “I thought I came along to help kill a monster.”

“Don’t worry about it,” Sadie says. “Just cast the spell.”

Corbin squeezes my hand and I look over at him and nod. He nods back and closes his eyes.
