As she touched the block, she knew that it wasn’t going to go — it was wedged in tight. She was careful not to move it, then ran her fingers across a couple other blocks until she found one that she thought would be safe to take out. Only trouble was, if she did, there would only be one block left on that level.

You can do it, Sophia. Just stay calm.

It’s amazing what play can do for the mind. Before she’d started the Jenga ‘challenge match’ her brain had been fizzing with anxiety. But now, finally, she was right in the moment — mindfully touching the blocks, connecting with the present.

‘That’s never going to work,’ Molly said from somewhere nearby.

‘Jedi mind tricks won’t affect me,’ Sophia joked, then, slowly, carefully, she extracted the block.

The tower wobbled, and for a moment Sophia thought she wasn’t going to get away with it. Molly made a big show of blowing dramatically, as though she might be able to topple the bricks. But it stood solid.

‘Drat!’ Molly said. ‘I’m done for. You’re some kind of Jenga wizard.’

Sophia really liked Molly’s nursery. It was somehow the coolest and cutest place she’d ever been. There was a bunch of oversized furniture in here, that made her feel super Little, as well as a stack of board games. One of the walls was entirely dedicated to graphic novels, of which Molly had about a million. Then there were the posters — Batwoman, Spiderman, and a bunch of other comic characters that Sophia didn’t recognize.

‘I was brought up on it,’ Sophia replied. ‘Although admittedly this is the best I’ve ever played.’

‘I won’t be so easily defeated,’ Molly said, eying up the tower. She considered a few of the blocks, then, deciding on one, she reached out toward the tower.

The tension grew, but was instantly cut as soon as Molly’s fingertips touched the tower. The sound of the tumbling bricks was music to Sophia’s ears.

She whooped: ‘Jenga!’ And then she fell about laughing.

‘Damn you and your dainty fingers!’ Molly said, as Sophia cackled. Then, in an off-hand way, she said, ‘Do you get to play with Littles often?’

Sophia stopped laughing. So, she was going to talk to someone about this. For the first time in her life. At least it was made easier by the fact that Molly had told her she was a Little first. ‘Um, no,’ Sophia said. ‘I think this is my first time.’

‘That must be hard for you,’ Molly said. ‘I mean, obviously, the being on the run from the Mob your whole life is probably, like, harder, but, ugh, sorry, I always say the wrong thing!’

‘No, don’t be silly!’ Sophia said. ‘It’s not the wrong thing. It’s the right thing. It’s so nice to be with someone who I can just be myself with.’

It was strange to hear those words, though. The Mob. She’d known, of course, deep down. But his family had never talked about it. And she’d always just tried to… wish it away.

Molly shuffled a bit closer and lowered her voice: ‘And you’re getting on well with Wolf, too?’

Sophia bit her lip. ‘Do you know we kissed?’ It felt so naughty to be talking about Wolf like this, but so good at the same time.

Molly’s eyes widened. ‘I didnotknow that!’

‘Yeah. It was amazing. Um, don’t tell him this but…’ she paused for a moment. ‘It was my first kissever.’

‘Woah. That’s a big deal.’

‘You think?’

‘Of course. I mean, it’s not my place to say, but I think youshouldtell him. Just so he knows. Not a good idea to keep things from a Daddy Dom. Not unless you want a very, very sore bottom.’

‘So heisa Daddy Dom?’ Sophia felt pretty sure she knew the answer to this. Aside from the conversations she’d overheard, Wolf gave off massive Daddy Dom energy whenever they were together.

‘You better believe it. All the guys in the MC are involved in the lifestyle to some degree. Some Daddies, some Doms, and you know, some that are both.’

‘That’s wild. I’ve never heard of a Motorcycle Club that’s also into that kind of stuff.’

‘I think they’re the only one.’

Sophia let all this sink in. She felt so safe with Wolf. When she thought about it rationally, she knew that not all bikers were bad guys.

‘This is all so surreal,’ she said to Molly. ‘It’s like everything’s changed for me.’
