Sam

About fucking time.“Took you long enough to call me back,” I snapped at Bob over the speakerphone as I got dressed.

“Your voicemail sounded like you were pissed.”

“I thought I made that very clear. Pissed doesn’t even come close to what I was. You had no right to authorize anyone to make changes to my home. And when I asked about the noise, you lied. What the fuck was going through you head, Bob?”

“You’re blowing this way out of proportion,” he said.

“Bob, if I wanted to, I could have called the police and also taken legal action against you both,” I warned.

“Shit. You didn’t do anything to her, did you? I mean she seemed nice. It’s not her fault, it’s mine. I take full blame,” he said.

“As you should.” But Randi made an error as well. Difference is, I believe she truly felt horrible about it. Not so sure Bob did. “Is that why you took off so suddenly? You knew I was going to be pissed?”

“Actually, I was hoping you’d like it. I mean come on. A man can really have some fun with a woman in there,” he stated.

“Then you should’ve had one built in your house, not mine,” I snapped.

“You’re getting old. Quit being so damn uptight about sex,” he replied.

“Just because I don’t take every woman I meet to bed, doesn’t mean I’m uptight,” I said honestly. Bob was proud of the fact he’d lost track of the number of conquests he’d had. I found that sad. Even though my marriage hadn’t worked out, at least I’d have treated her with respect.

“When was the last time you went out on a date?” he asked.

“Getting dressed for one as we speak.” I stated, instantly regretting admitting that to him.

His tone changed and he asked, “Really? Do I know her?”

“Why? Are you worried that a woman might not have fallen for your…charm?” I asked sarcastically. Bob took it as a compliment.

“Hardly. I’m like fine wine. I’m getting better with age.”

I wish he could hear how fucking arrogant he sounded. If I had more time, I’d tell him. “Bob, I don’t have time for this tonight. Unless you have something important you want to say, that you think I might want to hear, let’s just end this call now,” I said.

“Actually, I wanted to say…I’m sorry. I was a fucking idiot, and I never should’ve messed with your house. That was taking it too far,” he said.

I was blown away with how sincere Bob sounded. Even though I appreciated his apology, I wasn’t letting him off the hook. “Yes you did. But you don’t owe just me an apology. You hired someone who was innocent to your game.”

“Yeah. I know. I tried calling her a couple of times, but it just went to voicemail.”

She’s probably ignoring your call. Randi’s probably even angrier than I am at you.

“Just leave her a voicemail with your apology. That will be good enough.” The less she had to deal with Bob on, the better.

“I kind of really feel bad about everything. I was heading up to Boston this weekend for a concert and wanted to know if you’d care to join me,” he asked.

“Bob, I’m glad you’re taking ownership of what you did, but right now, I’m not in the mood to go and chill with you at a concert or anywhere else.”

“Hell, I get it. How about I just give you the tickets and maybe you can go with your lady friend, whoever she is,” he said.

“I can get my own tickets if I want them,” I stated firmly.

“Come on, Sam. Let me do something to make up for what I did,” he pleaded.

“Fine. I’ll take the tickets, but this doesn’t mean all is forgotten. It’s going to be a cold day in hell before I trust you in my house alone again,” I stated.
