I had to admit that Bob did in a way, get us to meet, but no way in hell was I tell him about the sex room.

“Bob hired her to do some work at my house while I was visiting with you. When I returned from the trip, she and I crossed paths, and have been seeing each other since.” That was a lot simpler than I thought it would be.

“Why was Bob having work done at your house? I mean you didn’t let him stay there while you were here, did you?” Danny questioned.

Of course, I did. Like an idiot.

“Not a wise decision on my part, but yes, I did. It won’t happen again.”

“That’s not like you. I don’t think you’ve ever let anyone in your house while you weren’t home, never mind stay there. But I want to hear more about Randi. It sounds like you’ve only known her a little more than a week, yet you’re talking like it’s serious. Am I correct?” he probed.

“It is, I mean was. I am not sure what it is,” I snapped.

“Well, that’s another first. One thing I’ve always known about you is you never get flustered. You know what you want, and nothing ever changes your mind. Looks like Randi has changed that.”

“I know. It’s not a good thing,” I admitted.

“You’re right. It’s a great thing. Carli and I were just talking about this the other day. I can’t wait to tell her,” he said.

“Tell her what? That her father-in-law is losing it?” I grumbled.

“You’re not losing it. More like you’re finding it,” he replied.

“I hope you know you’re beginning to sound a lot more like your wife. You talk in riddles so I can’t understand what the hell you’re trying to tell me. Just say it for God’s sake,” I demanded.

“It means she’s sparked something in you that I thought you’d never find. Someone to share your life with. Someone to love,” he stated.

“Who are you talking to, Dan?” I heard Carli ask in the background.

“My Dad. You’ll never believe it. He’s in love with someone named Randi.” I heard her whisper and Dan said, “With an I.”

Love? I never said anything about love.

“Dan, you’re making this bigger than it is,” I tried to correct him.

“No. I don’t think so. You might not have accepted the fact that you’re in love, but you will. Now all we need to do is figure out how to fix it before she makes a run for it,” he said.

“What did he do?” Carli asked.

“I’m putting you on speakerphone, Dad.” Even before I could tell him no, I heard him add, “Okay, Dad. I know you said you took Bob’s side over something that I guess you shouldn’t have. But what have you done to apologize?”

“I told her I’m sorry.”

I heard Carli huff. “That’s it?”

“Yes.” That’s more than some people do. Saying sorry wasn’t easy.

“Those are words, very important words, but they need to be followed up by actions. Did you send her flowers?” she asked.

“No,” I sighed.

“Did you show up at her house with dinner or something as a peace offering?” she questioned.

“Not that either. She doesn’t want to talk to me,” I said.

“Has she blocked your number?” Dan asked.

“How would I know?” I replied.
