Randi

It had been a week since Sam and I had confessed our love for each other and things were back to running smoothly. I was happy and he seemed happy as well. But tonight, I was nervous. Bob was back in town and he and Samantha asked us to join them for dinner. I couldn’t think of anything good that could come out of this, but if there was something going on between those two, I wanted to know.

And with any luck, put a stop to it.

“You look lovely,” Sam said as he entered my bedroom. “That dress matches your blue eyes.” He walked over and kissed me on the cheek. “Can’t wait to get back here and take it off you though.”

I chuckled. “Sam, we just finished making love in the shower.”

“Is it my fault that I can’t look at you without getting hard?” he asked.

“I can’t believe you can even think about sex with all that’s going on,” I reminded him.

“Do you know what’s going on?” he asked. I shook my head and he said, “Then why are you stressing over it?”

“Because this isn’t like my sister. And I know he’s your friend, but it’s going to be a long time before I trust him again,” I said honestly.

“I feel the same way about Bob. I think the concert tickets were his way of trying to make amends. Obviously, that didn’t work,” he replied. “We ended up fighting.”

“Yes. But we also ended up making up and finally opening up about our feelings,” I said.

“Are you saying that we owe Bob, not only for connecting us in the first place, but for getting us to say I love you?”

I chuckled. “There is no way we are giving him that much credit. That’s all us,” I said, kissing him lightly.

“Good, because his ego doesn’t need any more inflating.” He took my hand and said, “Now let’s get out of here before they think we’re blowing them off. Although it is very tempting,” he teased.

“Sorry. No fun until after I hear what Samantha has to say,” I stated as we headed out of the room.

“Maybe it’s nothing and they just want to have dinner with us,” he said.

“Do you believe that?” I questioned.

“No. But one could hope. Okay, let’s go.”

Samantha and Bob didn’t pick a restaurant close by. Instead, we were meeting them in Boston. That gave me an hour to drive and become even more anxious. When we finally arrived and were seated at the table with them, I couldn’t hold back any longer.

“So what is this about? Did you bring us all the way here to tell us that you’re dating?” I asked.

“Hi Randi. Nice to see you again,” Bob said. “Nice to see you too Sam.”

I bit back the words that I really wanted to say and instead said, “Sorry Bob. I guess my sister has left this as such a mystery that I am a little concerned as to what it is.”

“Understandable. But Samantha has a good head on her shoulders. You should trust her more,” he said.

I almost choked. What would Bob know about someone having a good head on their shoulders when he doesn’t have one himself?

“She is very smart.” Just sometimes she forgets her brain at home. I hope this is not one of those times.

“You guys look cute. You match,” Samantha said pointing to me and Sam.

I looked at his shirt and hadn’t even noticed that he was wearing the same color blue. It hadn’t been planned, at least not on my part and I doubted on Sam’s either. Normally I’d have picked up on that, but I was too distracted.

I looked at Bob and Samantha and they didn’t match, not in clothes or anything else. Hope you two see that.

“Yes. Blue is my favorite color,” Sam said. He turned to Bob and asked, “Is there a reason you wanted to meet here?”
