I tucked a few stray hairs behind her ear, and she stirred. “Go back to sleep. I need to check on Jazz.”

“Is she okay?” Tessa blinked to get her bearings.

“Yeah, she’s fine, but I should make an appearance. Rest, little one.” I ran my hand over her hair, and she closed her eyes, relaxing back into the bed and the pillow now resting under her head.

A plate with cold pizza sat on the dresser. I ate the pizza in a few bites between putting my boots on. The house was lit with artificial lighting when I emerged from the room. The sun was either almost set or had set already. It was hard to tell what time it was.

After grabbing a drink of water in the kitchen, I headed for my tallest brother and the Neutrals. They still seemed standoffish, but I didn’t know how to help that.

“Hi, Hazel, Connor. Thank you for being here tonight.”

“Of course. We would like to help any way we can.” Hazel spoke while Connor wrapped his arms around her waist and nodded.

“I’m glad to hear that. Has Adam explained about Elemental bites?”

They both nodded.

“Have you been bitten by an Elemental before, or anything?” They shook their heads in response. “Okay, let’s go to the gym. It will be more private there. When we’re done, there’s rooms upstairs. Adam will show you which one you can use. Usually I wouldn’t need to take this much, but I’ve been running scans on Jazz regularly for days, and it’s catching up with me.” Also, the lack of sleep since this all started.

“We understand.”

Adam led the way to the gym and closed the door when we’d all entered.

“Okay, Connor, you’re first. Give me your wrist please.” He did as I’d asked, and I bit into the flesh there. Adam grabbed him as his knees went weak. I took what I could before releasing him.

“Wow. I think Patrick needs to relax about the Elemental bite thing.” Connor gave a small smile.

“Don’t mention I bit you,” I reminded him.

“I won’t.”

“Hazel, your turn.” I didn’t need both, but I wanted to take from the Neutrals early and at the same time. They needed their rest after this.

The female Neutral was a bit more hesitant but obeyed me. Adam already steadied her so unlike her husband, she didn’t sway or almost fall over.

“Bed, both of you.”

“How’s Jazz?” Adam asked quickly as we left the gym.

“Good.”

We separated near the front of the house, Adam and the Neutrals going up one flight of stairs while I took the other. I didn’t bother knocking on Drew’s bedroom door but walked in. Jazz’s contractions were harder, and she was in the middle of one. Her nightgown was soaked in sweat, and her hair was pulled back with a hair band.

My brother looked strained and agitated. This would be one of his greatest tests. I went to him first and squeezed his shoulder.

Her vitals are good, and so are the babies’.

Thank you.

Get some rest, Drew. I’ll stay with her for now.

He glowered.I will not leave this room.

Lie on the floor. I didn’t ask you to leave.

His eyes unfocused as he debated with himself.

“Jazz,” she smiled at me after the contraction ended, “tell Drew to go rest.”
