"Well, they said they hoped that both of us grew up."

"What?! What is that supposed to mean?"

"Well, my mom and dad think we’re spoiled and impulsive and dreamers and, as they say, ‘Dreaming doesn't pay the bills unless your dad is Bill Gates.’ And, well, neither of our dads is Bill Gates."

"I don't think there's anything wrong with being a dreamer," I said, sighing.

"Yeah. We don't have jobs yet, but it's not because we're stupid."

"Yeah, but we graduated from college and... We moved back home." Alice sighed, "It made me feel kind of like a loser."

"I know. I felt the same way. But you know what?"

"What?"

"We got this. We are going to be women of the city. We are going to... We're going to dominate, right?"

"Yeah, we are!"

I heard the door opening, and I froze.

"Oh shit. I think Oliver's back."

"What?" Alice said. "What are you gonna do?"

"Well, I can't really pretend I'm asleep now 'cause I folded up the sheets." I stood there and watched as the door opened. I wanted to close my eyes, but I couldn't.

"Who is it?" Alice said.

And then, my jaw dropped when I saw my brother walking in.

"Foster?!" I said, standing up in surprise.

He broke into a wide grin as soon as he saw me.

"Hey, sis. How's it going?"

"But I thought you were going to be gone for much longer?"

"I was, but I told my boss that my sister had just moved to New York, and I felt bad being away. So he let me leave early. Come on, give me a hug."

I walked over to him, phone by my side, and gave my brother a big hug. He kissed me on the cheek, and he looked me over.

"Looking good, sis. I've missed you."

"Really? It seemed like you didn't want me to move here."

"I was just teasing. I'm your big brother. I'm always here for you. So... are you on the phone with someone?" He looked down at the phone in my hand.

"Oh my gosh! Yes! It's Alice."

"Oh." His eyes lit up. "How is she?"

"You can speak to her," I said. "Hey, Alice," I spoke into the phone.

"Hey, what's going on?"

"It's just Foster, not Oliver." I looked at Foster. He looked at me curiously, and I pressed my lips together. And I didn't want to tell my brother that I was ignoring his best friend because he didn't fuck me when I begged him.
