“Will all of our meals be pre-ordered like this, or do we get any kind of say?” Nadia asked. “I don’t eat seafood.”

“That’s fine. I just hadn’t had a chance to speak with you all yet. Let’s go eat and we can discuss this more.” I gestured to the table area. “Looks like Josh has your drinks ready.”

I followed behind the girls, realizing this was going to be a slow start. They all seemed a little shell-shocked. Aunt Victoria stood next to Jade, who was having some kind of fun, and were still standing on the patio watching until I walked up to them.

“Jade, would you like to stay for lunch?” Asher strolled by with a drink in his hand. “Come hang out with me. He has his hands full.”

“Sure, why not?” Jade said.

I stopped in front of her before she could follow Asher. “Are you going to stay for lunch?”

Chapter 75

Jade

Ihad paced the house so much I thought the carpet might light on fire. Charlie walked by a few times munching on cookies.

“Charlie, are you eating all the cookies for breakfast,” I laughed, “or are you just trying to distract me?”

“Distract you, of course. Who eats cookies for breakfast?” He brushed crumbs off of his shirt.

“Looks like it’s time to go. Come on, walk me out.” I linked arms with him. “I want you to call me for anything. I’m fifteen minutes away.”

“We got this, go have fun.” Charlie patted my cheek. “Let one of those other girlies marry him, then you can go back to your career.”

“What if he picks me?” We both started laughing. “Can you imagine me with a millionaire?”

“Not a millionaire,” Gunner said when we reached him on the dock, “he’s a billionaire.”

“Good Lord, I could have gone without knowing that. Tell me you’re lying.” I held up my hand to silence him. “Just tell me. Lie if you have to.”

“Jade, it’s just money. Does it matter what it’s called when it’s that much?” Gunner chuckled. “You don’t care about money, so what does it matter?”

“It doesn’t. I don’t even know why I’m talking about this.” I groaned. “I forgot my suitcase up at the house. I’ll be right back.”

“Stay here and greet Mrs. Hawthorne.” Lou walked away before I could. “And stop fidgeting.”

A limo pulled into the parking lot and, one by one, the other women emerged. They were all dressed so nice. I wanted to run back to the house and put a dress or something on, but it was too late for that now.

“Jade, I see you’re ready. This is Sarah, Nadia, Rebecca, and Tina.” Victoria introduced them. “Ladies, this is Jade. She is our fifth girl.”

I said goodbye to my new family and helped each of the women onto the boat. Since it was my boat, I took the helm, telling Gunner one of them could come get it later. We shoved off from the dock. I took a deep breath of the fresh salt air and looked out over the girls I’d be spending the next few weeks with.

Hopefully they’re fun. They look a little stiff right now.

Asher and Sawyer were standing on the dock when we pulled in. Asher stood at the ramp helping each woman off the boat.

I’d forgotten to ask who the groom was, but now I see it must be Asher. It makes sense, though, with Victoria planning this whole thing.

I wasn’t sure how this was supposed to go down, so when Victoria waited on the patio, I waited with her. I assumed Sawyer was showing them around since it was his island. Asher circled us like a shark until he stopped right next to me.

“Hey Jade, what brings you to these here parts?” He pretended to be using a super cheesy line. “Can I buy you a drink?”

“Why yes, I’d love a cold glass of water.” I pretend flirted back, batting my eyelashes. “I never come to places like this.”

We were laughing at the silliness of it when the women came back to the patio.

“Jade, why don’t you join us for lunch?” Sawyer said when he stopped in front of me. “We’re going to eat right now.”
