“How can I help you boys?” a man’s voice called out from somewhere. “The gate is unlocked, just come on in.”

We went through the gate and wandered through a few boats until the same male voice appeared in front of us.

“Welcome, I’m George. Jade called and said you were on your way over.” George wiped grease off his hands. “I was here working on a boat, so I waited. How can I help you?”

“Thanks for waiting on us, George. I’m looking for a boat, maybe a fifty-footer.” I pointed toward a sleek blue and white boat. “Maybe that one over there.”

“She’s a beauty, isn’t she? I just got her in yesterday.” George smiled ear to ear. “Come on, let’s go look at it.”

We climbed aboard. The seating was good and the interior was luxurious enough, for a small boat.

“George, I don’t need to take up too much of your time. I’ll take it.” I put my hand out to shake on it. “How soon can I get it over to my island?”

“Oh, you’re that fella that bought Sandpiper?” George climbed out of the boat. “Come on over to the office. I can get it to you as soon as tomorrow.”

“That’s perfect. I’ll have Jade bring it over, so if you can get it over to her marina, that would be best.” I read over the papers George laid in front of me.

“George, how quickly can you get another of this boat? Maybe in a different color?” Asher came up behind me. “Actually, maybe I’d rather have a speed boat.”

“Speed boats are nice, but not if you want to take more than one or two people out with you. But this one he’s buying is a perfect size.” George turned the papers around to look them over. “You didn’t fill out the financing part.”

“Oh, no financing, I’ll be paying outright.” I pulled my wallet out. “You take credit cards, right?”

“The people in town said you boys were full of money, but a credit card to buy a boat?” George laughed. “Oh, I don’t mean no disrespect, you seem like nice boys. Of course I’ll take a credit card.”

“I’m sure you’re not used to it, and I’m not insulted at all.” I patted his shoulder. “Do you know anywhere they sell seaplanes?”

“Dude, let me buy a boat before we move on to planes,” Asher complained. “George, what was the answer to another one of the same boat?”

“I can order it for you. It should take a week to get here.” George looked at his computer screen.

“And if I want it sooner?” Asher asked. “I’ll pay extra.”

“There is an option here to pay for quicker delivery. Do you want to know how much?” George stared at Asher. “Do you need it before a week?”

“George is right, Ash, you don’t actually need it sooner, do you?” I turned to see a pouty Asher. “George, just add on the faster delivery. I know my cousin, and he wants what he wants when he wants it.”

“You got it, and if you tell me what seaplane you want, I can get it.” George smiled. “If you want to look at my computer and pick one, you can. Or, look at your leisure, then call me.”

“Let me do a little bit of research tonight, then I’ll get back with you.” I stepped back so Asher could pay for his boat. “Nice doing business, George. Do you have a boat?”

“I have a lot of boats, look around,” George chuckled. “Sorry, just a little joke. Yep, I sure do.”

“Can I pay you to come pick up Jade from my island after she delivers my boat tomorrow?” I asked. “I don’t have specifics yet, but checking the possibilities.”

“I’ll do anything for Jade, plus I owe her for the recommendation.” George handed me his business card. “Just message me when you need me.”

The sun was setting and the little town looked inviting. We passed the pub to see the crew hanging out with the locals.

“Why don’t we go grab something to eat at that little diner and let the boys play a little longer.” I slowed, looking for a parking spot. “I’m just gonna park at the marina. We can walk back.”

“What if it rains?” Asher looked out the window. “I’m not walking in the rain.”

“You’re such a diva, Ash. You won’t melt.” I made fun of him. “If it rains, I’ll get the truck and pick you up. We’re walking.”

We went the extra two blocks to park at the marina.

“Looks like the lights aren’t on,” Asher said. “We better not get mugged.”
