“I’ll call Masie,” Mrs. Hedgings offered.

Niall straightened. “We’re her mates. We’ll talk to her.”

I wanted to applaud him. He was generally an asshole, but for once, it was helping me.

“Go ahead.” I nodded to the phone.

He tapped the screen before holding it up to his ear. He turned to face the wide windows as if that would keep any of us from eavesdropping.

“Hello? Masie?” he paused. “Yes, it is.”

He ran his fingers through his hair. “Something’s happened. Saige fell ill. Well, we thought she was.” He continued to update her on what happened, then lowered the phone. “She wants to come. Will you give her access?”

Mrs. Hedgings didn’t hesitate. “Of course.”

“Yes, she will make the arrangements.” He listened. “Would you like me to reach out to them?”

I wanted to pull the phone away and put it on speaker but knew I'd get punched if I tried.

“All right. We’ll see you soon.”

He hung up and turned to face us. “She’s coming, and she’s going to call her parents. I assume they will not be allowed to come?”

“No, not until the situation turns dire,” Mrs. Hedgings replied.

Dire? She was cursed. In a coma. How much worse could things get?

My gut clenched. She could be dying. That was what it would need to be.

“I’ll go retrieve her.” She excused herself and left the room.

“I can’t believe this is happening,” Theo said when we were alone again.

None of us could. But the thought that the person who would do this was someone we knew still stung.

Who would want to hurt Saige?
