“I need to get this off.” One of them was twisting his arm, but I didn’t care. I had my prey in sight.

A bird swooped down in front of me, almost hitting me. I snarled and snapped at it.

“Move!”

The bird flapped its wings and was out of reach as I jumped and hit another invisible force.

One of them came toward me again with his hands in front of him. I sank back on my haunches and watched before leaping for the kill.

I slammed into it again.

Fury roiled through me. They were trapping me. They were going to kill me if I didn’t get out!

“You got her? I’m going to get help!” One ran through an opening in the wall, and I saw my chance to escape. I changed direction, running toward it when my nose, then head, and body crashed into the barrier.

Pain washed over me, and I cried out.

I was weakening, but I couldn’t give up. I couldn’t let them take me away.

Two came through the wall and walked toward me. I couldn’t lift my head. Everything hurt.

One bent down, getting too close. I growled, but he didn’t even flinch.

“It’s okay, Saige. We’ll take care of you.”

I saw a syringe and tried to stand, but I was too slow. He stabbed me in the shoulder before I could find my feet. I flopped down on the floor with a thump I felt through my bones.

“Why isn'tshe waking up? You said it would only take a few minutes.”

“Guys, give her some space.”

“You're one to talk. You're practically leaning over her.”

“Everyone, just move back. Let her breathe.”

“Let him do what he needs to.”

What were they arguing over? I tried to open my eyes, but the brightness made the pain worse.

“She’s waking up!” Sai exclaimed.

“Lower your voices,” Niall whispered, and I wanted to thank him. If only I had the energy or capacity to do so.

“Why don't you close the blinds and turn off that lamp,” a deep male voice directed.

I tried to open my eyes. This time it was much darker, and I could see all four of my guys staring down at me, plus one face I didn't recognize.

He smiled and lifted my wrist, placing two fingers on the inside and holding it before nodding. “I think you'll be just fine, but you might be a little achy for the next day or two. You’ll probably have a headache. Those are side effects of being forced to shift, but they should go away within a few hours. If it lasts longer than this evening, come see me in the clinic.”

I nodded, hoping the guys understood what he was talking about. He left the room, and I focused on the guys’ worried expressions.

“What's going on? Did something happen? Were we attacked?”

They looked nervously at each other.

“You don't remember?” Theo asked.

“No.” I rubbed my eyes.
