Becca turned over and hugged the pillow closer. She didn’t want to wake up yet, even though she knew she should. Wait, no. It wasn’t a school day. Yay! She could sleep in for a while if she wanted to. Her brain started to come closer to the surface. Could she sleep in? What did she need to do? It wasn’t Saturday. No, it was still Christmas break and … the pillow was warm and muscular, and it had just moved … oh, crap!

She bolted upright and looked around. She was in Jacob’s bedroom, in Jacob’s bed – with him! He was right there, looking startled.

“Hey. Are you okay?” He sat up beside her and wrapped his arm around her shoulders.

She just stared at him. He looked gorgeous with his hair all tousled from sleep, and his bare chest looking all muscly and … She forced herself to focus. “Mmm.” She didn’t want to open her mouth; she probably had horrible morning breath.

A small smile played on his lips as he cocked an eyebrow at her. “Mmm?”

She nodded.

He leaned in to kiss her, but she pressed her lips together.

His smile faded and he leaned back to look into her eyes. “What’s wrong? Are you okay?”

Her heart melted. He looked so worried. He didn’t want there to be anything wrong with her, and she already knew that he’d do whatever he could – from buying her a car to slaying dragons – to make sure that she was okay.

She smiled and relaxed but held her hand up to cover her mouth before she spoke. “Nothing’s wrong. Don’t look so worried. I woke up startled because I realized that I’m here … with you. And I didn’t want to say anything because I probably have horrible morning breath.”

She stared back into his eyes, feeling stupid. She should have said that she needed to go pee and gone straight to the bathroom – she could have stolen a squeeze of toothpaste, even if she didn’t have a toothbrush.

Jacob shook his head slowly as he reached for her hand and pulled it away from her mouth. “I don’t care.”

She raised her eyebrows.

“I don’t care if you have morning breath.” He drew her closer and pressed a kiss to her lips. “It doesn’t matter.”

She gave him a pained look, but he just laughed.

“You’re going to have to get used to it, Becca. You’re going to have morning breath every morning – and so am I. And I’m going to want to kiss you every morning anyway. I’m not going to wait while you brush your teeth, or whatever else it is you’re thinking that’s got you looking toward the bathroom like that.” He chuckled.

“But, I … You don’t …”

He cocked an eyebrow. “What?”

She shrugged. “I’m just embarrassed, I guess.”

“Well, don’t be. As I said, you’ll soon get used to it.” He gave her a meaningful look and she tried to focus.

He was trying to tell her something, but she didn’t know … “Oh!”

He chuckled again. “Yes, Becca, Oh! I said that I’m going to want to kiss youeverymorning.”

She swallowed, and his smile faded.

“Unless you don’t want that.”

Her heart raced. He’d asked her to move in with him. He’d said that he wanted to use the one night she was prepared to stay with him to persuade her that she should spend all her nights with him. A rush of warmth spread through her – he’d been very persuasive, too! But could she … should she …?

When she met his gaze, she could see the chink in his confidence again. “Last night I asked if you want to be mine. I’m asking again.”

She pressed her lips together. Did she want to be his? Hell yes, she did! But how realistic was that? His arm tightened around her shoulders, and she knew the answer – it was as real as it got. He’d put himself on the line for her – been as open and honest as she’d ever known a man to be. He wasn’ttheJacob Jacobs who was just toying with a woman for entertainment. He was Jacob, the sweet guy she already knew she was falling for. Her eyes pricked with tears when she realized that what she’d told him last night was true. “I am. How could I be anything else after last night?”

He nodded, but he seemed to sense that there was something she needed to ask him, too. “But?”

“But are you mine?” Jeez! She knew that someone like her didn’t get to make demands like that of someone like him – but she had to.

He visibly relaxed and pressed another kiss to her lips. “Yes, Becca, I am. I’m all yours.”
