I wake suddenly to the sound of Aiden’s alarm while he sleeps peacefully next to me. I’m still cuddled in the same position I was when I went to sleep. I want to let him be, but I think better of it and kiss him lightly on his slightly parted lips.

His eyes slowly open as he realizes the time. “Morning, beautiful,” he murmurs as he touches my face.

“Morning,” I chime, and I kiss him again.

He reaches for his phone, shutting off the incessant buzzing. “Waking up to you kissing me is the perfect way to start my day.” He nuzzles his nose against mine.

“Wish we could start every day with a kiss.”

He leans his forehead against mine. “Me, too. But for now, I need to get dressed. Mike will be here shortly.” He pecks me on the lips once more before sliding out of bed.

Watching Aiden put his clothes on, I fantasize about him taking them off again.

He looks at me, raising an eyebrow. “Enjoying the view?”

I shrug. “Absolutely.”

He throws his shirt at me, and I chuckle, then he comes over to the bed to retrieve it. Holding on to the material, he goes to take it from my grasp, but I hold it tightly so he has to try harder to get it away from me.

“Hmm… playing games, are we?” I grin at him mischievously. “Two can play that game, Miss Taylor.” He lunges, pushing me back on the bed and kisses me feverishly.

I forget everything when his lips are on mine, and I let go of the shirt, placing my arms around him. Suddenly, he snatches the shirt, pulling away.

“Damn! I don’t like this game anymore,” I whimper childishly.

He grins. “No one likes a sore loser, Miss Taylor,” he teases.

I sit up on the bed with folded arms, pretending to be angry and all pouty-mouthed.

“Unfortunately, all you’re achieving right now is showing me how cute you are when you pretend to be angry.”

Damn, he’s figured me out, and now he’s fully dressed.

Aiden sits on the edge of the bed next to me. “I have to go. Mike will be here soon.” I nod and move to get out of bed. “No, don’t get up. Stay in bed and go back to sleep until you need to leave for work. I know my way out,” he states moving in for an embrace.

“We should take a sick day. Spend the day together.”

He exhales and frowns. “You know I want to, but my work is important to me, and we need all hands on deck. Plus, you’ve met my father. He’ll be suspicious. I never take sick days even when I’m sick.”

My body sags. “Yeah, you’re right.”

Aiden’s phone beeps receiving a message. “It’s Mike. He’s out front. I’ll talk to you tonight. Okay?”

“Okay,” I reply as he kisses me goodbye and walks out.

I fall back on the bed and sigh.

Rolling over, I take his pillow which is smothered in his sweet, masculine scent. With a long deep breath, I slowly relax and slip into unconsciousness.

Most of last night was spent on the phone talking to Aiden about my boring day at work and how much I wish he was in my bed next to me. He talks only momentarily about his workday, which was filled with meetings.

The next day I receive my usual morning text from Aiden before heading off to work.

Aiden: Morning, beautiful. Hope you slept well. xoxo

Jenifer: Morning, babe. I slept so well. Last time I looked at the clock it was early morning when we finally stopped talking. I hope you aren’t too tired today. xoxo

Aiden: I knew it was late when we stopped talking. Doesn’t matter. I’d rather have endless nights talking to you than not being able to talk to you at all. xoxo
