She nodded, “Yep, just another place.”

I took my coffee cup from my bodyguard’s hand, taking a sip. I held my cup in the air, giving a secret signal to the bodyguard behind Isabelle. Joseph slightly nodded, but the other did not move a muscle. Isabelle gazed at me with a smile, almost as if she were bashful.

“Buona giornata,” I smirked as I spun to walk away.

“You too to whatever you said!” she called after me while I disappeared into the bustling morning crowd on the sidewalk.

I laughed as my back was turned. Refusing to glance back at her, we continued to my office, but I know she was still trying to see me. Joseph sent me a quick text letting me know, causing me to grin. My plan might work after all.

When I got to my office, I sat in meeting after meeting. My mind would not stop wandering to her. I would speak up when I needed to, but my executive team was running the meetings today. It was all numbers, budgets, and a boring, seemingly endless Power Point presentation. I was paying close attention, but I also continued glimpsing at my phone to see if she would text me again. To my surprise, she did not.

I walked to my office after my last meeting and leaned on the window. Looking out over the city, I watched in envy as all the people below probably lived normal lives, never worrying about situations like mine. What had I gotten myself in to? Now living a double life, I felt as though I could be a secret agent or spy. However, I felt like I had actually become one.

Just then, my phone vibrated on my desk. I snapped out of my thoughts, sauntering over to it, hoping that it would be her. I scooped it off the surface of the desk, reading:

Miss me yet? lol

I chuckled, typing out my reply,Of course, I do. What are you doing right now?

Waiting for my furniture to get here but they called and said it would be an hour later than expected:/

Thank you btw, I appreciate this so much.

I sighed, hovering my thumbs over my phone, debating how to respond. I sent two more texts to her in response.

You're welcome, Isabelle.

How does it feel to be free?

She fired back quickly, Is anyone ever really free? But it is nice not to trip over everything ;)

My eyes became enlarged as I thought maybe she had figured out that it was me all along. Why else would she send me that last sentence? I mildly panicked, then decided to see for myself if she knew who I was.

I picked up my other phone and called Joseph. He assured me that she knew nothing, causing me to feel a bit better. Still, I wanted to see her again. I told him to take her out for coffee while I headed out of my office.

As I passed my assistant, she called out to me, “Mr. Greco, you ha--.”

“Not now Samantha.”

Once out of the building, with my security trailing closely behind, I made my way to the coffee shop outside her apartment. Planting myself in a chair with a newspaper, I waited for her to arrive while I looked as inconspicuous as possible. I did not know why I chose a newspaper in this day and age, but I actually enjoyed reading them, and often did.

Studying the paper, I pretended to read so that I would look casual when she strolled up. Before I could get too settled, I saw footsteps stop next to me. My eyes trailed up her body, stopping on her gaze. She peered down at me with her hands gripping her hips in a feisty posture.

“Are you addicted to coffee or something?” She averted her eyes nervously before bringing them back to mine.

“Coffee is good, but it's not what I'm addicted to, no.” I winked coyly.

She blushed, shifting her weight as she was unsure how to respond.

“Out for another run?” I teased.

She shook her head slightly, gesturing to the coffee shop smiling, “I'm actually getting some coffee too.”

“I see.”

“I'm Isabelle by the way,” she beamed, before she averted her eyes to the ground, mumbling, “I'm not sure if you knew that.”

I snorted before sarcastically mentioning, “I might have heard your boss angrily yell it a few times.”
