“There’s nothing you can say to save yourself now.”
Lex lifted his hand, but instead of doing a spell, he punched the assailant in the face. The robber crumpled to the ground, out cold. I stared at Lex in shock. He was physically strong, but his magic was ridiculously powerful. The fact that he’d used his fists instead made something low in my belly warm. I clutched my grocery bags tighter. I was not getting turned on by Lex punching a guy in the face to save someone.
Okay, maybe I was.
But the contrast between him joking around with me and completely dominating this guy with a single punch ticked an arousal box I didn’t know I had.
“You…punched him?” I asked, my voice breathy.
“Sometimes a fist will do what a spell doesn’t. And the asshole deserved it.” He turned and gathered the female fae’s things. “Are you all right, miss?”
She nodded, her eyes wide and skin deathly pale. “T-thank you.”
“It’s no problem.” Lex tucked her things back into her bag and helped her to her feet. “Where do you need to go? I’ll have my security take you there.”
She told him her address, and he called for his security. They pulled around the corner to the outside of the alley. Lex made sure the woman got inside okay and sent her off. Another set of enforcers took away the assailant’s unconscious body.
“Another car will be here for us soon,” he said, leaning against the side of the building.
“That was really nice of you,” I said.
“Nice?” He raised an eyebrow and smiled. “Punching a guy in the face was nice?”
“Nice isn’t the right word, but…” I shrugged, my face burning hot.
“You liked it, didn’t you?” His voice lowered to a purr that wiggled its way down my body and between my legs. “Admit it.”
“Fine.” I forced myself to look him in the eye. “Happy?”
“Yes.” He closed the space between us, gently guiding me against the wall. My heartbeat stuttered and skipped around.
The Royals tried to intimidate me with their size, but they had it all wrong—I liked how big and muscular they all were. Even though Lex was the leanest and shortest of the three, he was much taller and broader than the average male fae. He looked down at me, resting a hand on the wall.
Was he going to kiss me?
I wanted him to. I shouldn’t have, but my feelings were my feelings. I tilted my head back, parting my lips.
“What do you want, Arden?” Lex asked, running his thumb across my bottom lip.
A flare of frustration overtook the lust building inside of me. “What do you think I want?”
“A kiss.” He slid a hand down to my waist, glancing down at my chest. My nipples were hard through my t-shirt. “More than that, possibly.”
“You’re right. What’ll it take for you to make it happen?”
If I were with any other male, I would have just kissed him. Taken charge. But I wanted to give Lex the control this time. He wasn’t some bumbling guy I’d met at a bar or one of Lucy’s well-intended attempts at setting me up with her husband’s friends. This was Lex. He knew exactly how to be in charge.
But instead of giving me what I wanted, he studied my face, his hands wandering all over my body. My breath hitched as he leaned toward me, but he turned his head at the last minute, so his breath skated over my neck. I arched into his touch, tilting my head for him to kiss my neck or bite me orsomething.
My entire body was on fire. He hardly touched my skin, but he didn’t have to. The places where his hands hovered over me did more than enough to make me pant.
“Lex.” I tried to kiss him, but he dodged me, cupping my mound over my jeans. He had to have felt the heat there, maybe even how soaked I was. I let out a growl of frustration, which only made him chuckle. “I’m serious.”
He grinned wickedly. “Say ‘please.’”
“Please,” I whispered.
He finally gave me what I wanted, and it was even better than I’d ever expected. His kiss was deep and intense from the start, his tongue sliding against mine. He pressed me against the wall, his mouth insistent. My body melted against the wall, and he looped an arm around me to keep me standing.
