“Again, I’m not seeing the issue.”

Kent looked ready to pull out his hair. Keira could sympathize.

“Are you sure it’s all right for me to be here?” she asked.

“Yes!” Abby said. “Yes, of course. In fact, I know this sounds weird, because I know he was a terrible person. But maybe Max sent you . . . so you could be here for my wedding.”

“Maybe,” she whispered.

“You have to come to my bridal shower. We’re going into the beauty place in town to get facials and our nails done as well as massages. Please come.”

“I’m not sure,” Keira said. “I don’t want to intrude.”

“Please,” Abby begged.

She was so sweet, it was hard to say no. “Are you sure Eden will be okay with me being here? I wanted to call, but Zander wouldn’t let me.”

“I told you, if you’re not welcome, then I wasn’t coming. And then Kent would likely cry.” Zander turned to wink at her. He was winding Kent up on purpose.

“Right, I’d bawl into my pillow.”

“See?” Zander said.

Kent gave her a reassuring smile. “Keira, Eden will be happy to see you. She doesn’t hold you responsible for anything. Please, stay.”

“Thank you.” She smiled at Kent.

“And if you want to stay after this guy goes, you’re welcome to do that too.”

“She’s not staying here without me.”

“She should know she has a choice,” Kent pointed out.

“Keira is my fiancée, she goes where I go.”

She was pretty sure the tables had turned and Kent was now prodding at Zander to wind him up.

“Keira needs to take a nap. Abby looks like she should go to bed and stay there until the baby is born,” Zander said.

She shot him an exasperated look. He really had no tact.

“Can you show us to our cabin?” he asked Kent.

“Oh, um, there isn’t one ready.”

“Why not? How can you invite guests and not have somewhere for them to stay?” Zander demanded.

“Just rude of us, I guess,” Kent replied dryly.

“It is, really,” Zander said.

“You didn’t tell us you were coming!” Kent said, frustrated.

“We need one with a panic room.”

“We don’t have any panic rooms,” Kent told him.

“That’s a big disappointment.”
