I’m reluctant to leave Amanda, but I need to get a little closer to find out what I’m dealing with.

I tell myself I’ll only be a second. Then, I force myself to slip away from the secluded spot.

The whispering intensifies as I get closer. My wolf rises to the surface, making my vision glow as I realize the voices I’m hearing are female and they’re chanting ominously in something other than English. My stomach churns. Witches.

I have no defence against magic, and Amanda’s abilities are basic.

We need to get the hell out of here.

I turn quickly and start to head back to my mate, already planning our escape in my head.

I don’t get the chance to implement that plan. The whispering stops, and I find myself being dragged backwards by an invisible force. I can’t break free. I try to shift, to attempt to disrupt the spell.

My wolf won’t come out. The magic is preventing him from coming out.

I’m dropped to the ground suddenly, black smoke swirling in the air around me.

I can’t move. I can barely keep my eyes open.

Whatever this spell is, there’s no way I’m escaping it now.

I pray to the God of Wolves to protect my mate.

She’s all that matters.

Chapter Eighteen

Iknowsomething’swrongthe second Parker opens the door to Jillian’s Omega. Nix tells us we need to come help, and panic swells inside me when he mentions witches.

Amanda’s in trouble. She needs our help. She needsmyhelp.

“Where did Sean take her?” I ask Parker. My magic is already making my skin itch.

“I don’t know,” Parker admits, frowning.

I take a breath as Nix steps back and we leave the apartment.

“Rachel can locate her and take us there,” Nix says.

I can’t wait. I can locate her too. My chest tightens. I just haven’t actually used my magic in a while. I’ve been too busy getting back in tune with my wolf after so damn long pretending he didn’t exist.

“I can find her faster,” I tell them, making Parker’s frown deepen.

“You can?” he asks, as if he doesn’t understand.

I concentrate on my mate’s face. I think about how she looked when she left.

I connect to the magic that’s swirling inside me. I have deep reserves. I don’t need to replenish them now. I hardly ever need to do that.

“What are you…” Parker starts, his voice trailing off before he completely vanishes from sight.

The world swirls lightly before I discover my new location.

I’m in the middle of the woods, the scent of magic thick in the air.

The bad kind of magic. Thick, smoky, Dark Lord worshipper magic.
