Shit. Amanda really is in trouble.

I need to find her, so I pick past the heavy scent. She’s not far, but Sean is closer.

I move quickly toward them.

Sean’s on the ground. I reach him and flip him onto his front.

He’s out cold. Spelled. He reeks of magic.

A knock-out spell seems too simple for Dark Arts witches, but I cast the spell to break it anyway.

His eyes open, and I’m about to help him up when he grabs me by the throat.

His eyes flash red. Shit. He’s possessed by a demon.

Pain bursts through me as he grins with sharp teeth.

I grab his arm in both hands and send flames from my fingers over his naked flesh. It takes a few seconds, but he lets me go, and I begin the process to exorcise the demon’s spirit before he can do anything more to stop me.

I ignore the pain from my bruised throat for as long as I can, but eventually I need to partially shift to heal the damage. I breathe out a weary sigh once that’s done.

Worry swells in me over Amanda. She’s my mate and I need to help her.

I’m sorely tempted to leave Sean and come back to him, but I know this might be my one chance to exorcise the demon. He’s been possessed recently. The faster I get it back out, the better.

My stomach ties into knots. I have supplies at the apartment that would make this faster, easier.

I know Rachel is coming out here to help Amanda. I know she’s bringing a lot of help.

The demon is a threat to Amanda. He’s a threat to all of them.

I need to help my Alpha. I need to take him home and finish the exorcism.

I send Parker a message quickly, so he doesn’t waste time looking for Sean.

Then, I take one last lungful of Amanda’s scent before I teleport Sean home to finish the spell.

Chapter Nineteen

It’sbeendarksinceI woke up alone in that clearing. I knew something was wrong straight away. It had to be. Sean would never leave me alone in a strange place like this. Never mind leave me naked. He would have woken me if he had the chance, which makes me wonder what exactly could have happened to him.

I got dressed as quickly as possible, shoving his tank top over the top of my dress. His jeans were gone, along with his sneakers, so whatever happened, presumably he was conscious for it. I don’t know if that makes me feel better or worse.

Worries fill my head as I pick my old-battered cell phone out of my pocket.

The battery’s low. It’s always low.

I curse myself for not asking Parker to fix the new one for me to use tonight. I hadn’t really thought I’d need it. Why would I? I was only coming out on a date with my Alpha.

I start the walk back to the car, wondering if it’s worth taking a second to call Sean. Maybe he just went back for the food. Maybe he’s already on his way back.

No. He wouldn’t leave me without at least waking me.

And I’m pretty sure he would have asked if I wanted to eat in the car, or once we got back home.

I’m too freaked out to try calling out his name, so I just walk in the straightest line possible, hoping to hell I see Sean once I get out of the woods. I don’t know what happened, but there must be an explanation. I just wish I knew what it was.
