“Now, now,” the leader says. “There’s no need to get all riled up. You’re in no real danger.”

Like hell I’m not. I frown at her, ready to let my wolf fully surface.

She’s mad at these witches, and she wants to know what the hell they did with our Alpha.

“Where’s Sean?” I ask, not willing to get drawn into the conversation for any other reason.

She snorts. “Your Alpha went for a little nap. Don’t worry. We didn’t hurt him too much.”

Now it’s hard to tell who’s angrier. Me or my wolf. I think it’s a tie.

I growl at her, pulling away from her friend’s firm grasp.

I’m ready to shift and fight until blood soaks the floor of the forest.

Then the blonde witch utters the final word of her binding spell, and my wolf is pulled under like she’s been drugged. I guess, in a way, she has.

Without her, and without my magic, I’m just a girl who’s been trapped and cornered in the woods by three bullies who hold all the power. My anger rises again. I put up with being walked over in Fallen Pines, I put up with being ignored and pushed to the bottom of the pile over and over again.

I was broken down. I’d accepted my fate as an outcast.

That’s not who I am anymore, and I won’t let these mean girls make me feel like that.

“You know, you’re making a huge mistake,” I tell her, holding her gaze.

“Oh, really? What mistake is that, exactly?”

“You messed with the wrong witch,” I hear Rachel say, her tone colder than ice.

I turn to see my witch friend walking toward us, a whole army of back up following in the form of her high school best friend Cheryl, Jillian, and a whole gang of shifters looking ready for a fight.

“Oh my Goddess,” the quiet witch murmurs.

“Ugh, I hate shifters,” the blonde complains, grabbing my arm again.

Her nails dig in and I shove her off hard, digging my elbow into her guts. The noise she makes is pained and followed by a retching sound. I move away quickly, and Parker pulls me into his arms.

“You okay?” he asks, his hand lifting my chin up while he examines my face.

“I’m fine. Did you find Sean?” I ask quickly.

He nods. “Dante found him and took him home. He sent me a text. Said he’s under a spell. Dante said he could break it.”

I relax, nodding.

“You sure you’re okay?” he asks again.

“I’m just cold,” I tell him, making him let go.

I whine lightly at losing the hug, but he takes off his sweater and wraps it around my shoulders a second later. It’s sweet and I feel warmer instantly. I don’t get much longer to enjoy the moment.

The trio of nasty witches are chanting, and that’s never good news.

I turn to see them levitating a foot off the ground. The magic that surrounds them is mesmerizing, but I don’t know what it means. I look at Rachel and she shrugs at me before she steps forward and levitates higher than them.

“Quit the chanting, or you won’t like what I do to you,” she threatens.

They don’t stop. She shrugs.
