She looks at Cheryl. My mate nods without hesitation. I frown. I doubt Bianca would do something like that, but she did sort of like Oscar. Before she tried to kill him.

“Okay,” Silas says with a sigh. “She’s lingering about in the garden. I’ll go tell her. Wait a sec.”

“We can still ask Mabel to test Oscar for possession,” Rachel says. “The ghost can’t be trusted, and we need an answer.”

“You guys can’t do a spell for it?” I ask.

“It’s more of a necromancer’s specialty,” Cheryl tells me. “Neither of us have studied death magic. It comes kind of close to Dark Arts. It’s too risky if you’re not a necromancer.”

“They have inherent instincts that let them avoid anything that might put them on a darker path,” Rachel adds. “We don’t, and it’s not an accident an earth magic user wants to make.”

“So, we need to wait for that council witch to come back.”

They nod. It’s not ideal. I’d rather know for sure that our Omega isn’t going to be forcibly removed from our home and taken away by a pack I don’t trust for one goddamn second.

Even before that woman got here with her kid, I didn’t trust them.

Now, knowing what goes on in that town, I know I can’t let them take Oscar.

I know where things are headed. What this is all spiralling into.

I’m going to have to challenge that Alpha.

He can’t be allowed to live.

Chapter Sixty-Seven

Cheryl

Rachelhangsupthecall after Silas comes back and tells us Bianca has agreed to do what we asked of her in exchange for helping her move on. It doesn’t make me feel any better. My hopes that we’d found an answer were dashed the second Silas said the ghost hadn’t possessed Oscar.

I can tell Everett’s getting angry again. He calmed down enough to function these last few hours, but I know he’s going to get worse the closer we get to the impending deadline. Hearing that call didn’t help.

“We should organise dinner,” I tell Everett, hoping it might distract him like lunch did.

“We can order stuff,” he grumbles. “I’m going to wait for that Alpha to get back.”

Rachel looks at me. “I should get back inside. Make sure Georgia’s okay.”

She squeezes my hand before she lets it go.

I turn to Everett. “They won’t be here for two hours yet.”

“They’ll show up sooner than that.” He doesn’t take his gaze off the road.

I can tell by his stare what he’s planning. I knew it could come down to this.

We didn’t find an answer, and now Everett thinks the only way to solve the problem is to challenge the other Alpha. Trouble is, I don’t know how that could affect things.

“Everett…”

“We have a reason, now, Cheryl,” he says, his dark blue eyes meeting mine finally. “That pack are at the mercy of a psychopath. The girl sitting in our lounge is evidence of that. I can’t let that shit slide, and I can’t let them take Oscar.”

“I have a bad feeling about him,” I find myself saying. “Something really isn’t right here, and we don’t know what it is exactly. We need to be careful.”

“I’m done being careful,” he growls.

“We need to at least talk to Georgia. I want you with me when I speak to her. We both need to hear what she’s got to say.” I hope to hell she can tell us something useful, because I really don’t like the idea of Everett going up against an Alpha who’s been torturing his own pack.
