“It’s almost time,” Cheryl tells me.

“Countdown?” I ask.

“Thirty seconds,” she tells me.

I take three slow, deep breaths.

Then I raise my fist, and the door opens before I can use it.

The woman standing in front of us is unfamiliar. She looks like a housekeeper, and she looks petrified. “Alpha Mercer will meet with you in his office.”

His office? Does he think this is a business deal?

I let out a growl and the woman flinches.

“Can you show us where that is?” Cheryl asks, taking over.

The woman nods. “Right this way.”

She gestures to us to enter the house.

I glance at my mate, and she shrugs before following the housekeeper inside. I follow her, clenching my fists. The Alpha’s scent trail doesn’t seem to exist inside the house. I can smell Oscar, and the housekeeper, but not Liam Mercer.

It feels like a fucking trap.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he sends his Betas to attack us while he runs for the hills. If he’s slimy enough to sell Omegas, I wouldn’t put anything else past him.

We’re ready for anything, so I’m not worried.

I watch Rachel walk off in the opposite direction, going to locate Oscar.

She’s powerful. She’ll protect him for us until this is over.

I barely resist the urge to follow her instead of the housekeeper.

Dealing with Mercer before we take Oscar home is a necessary evil.

I’m still ready to unleash my rage on the Alpha who stole my Omega, but we need to find him first.

We’re taken along a corridor that leads to a staircase. We follow the housekeeper up the stairs, and down another corridor toward a set of double doors.

She opens one of the doors and ushers us inside.

It’s dark in the room, a fire and a few small lamps providing the only illumination.

I can’t pick up Liam Mercer’s scent in the room at all.

I frown as I turn back to the door.

“Alpha Mercer will be with you in a moment,” the housekeeper says, closing the door on us.

I look at Cheryl. “What the fuck is this shit?”

She shrugs at me. “I honestly don’t know.”

“Can you track the Alpha somehow? I’m not picking up his scent trail.”

“I can try,” she says, moving deeper into the room.
