“I don’t think Mercer knew about it.”

He would have spoiled it if he did.

He was an asshole.

He created this place, and he kept everyone in fear, but he couldn’t take this place away from us.

We still found ways to be happy, even in the worst situation. We still had hope.

Mom never gave up. She did whatever it took to give me the best life she could.

She got me away from here, away from the man who would have sold me.

I’m never going to give up on finding the rest of my siblings.

They deserve a good life too.

I turn and take Cheryl’s hand. “Let’s go meet the Council. The sooner they have the ledger, the sooner they can start looking for my brothers and sisters.”

She nods, and leads me away, Everett trailing behind.

The witches we meet at Mercer’s property are all middle-aged, and some of them look like average moms, while others are dressed more like witches. Older witches. Long skirts, and velvet fabrics.

A witch in burgundy velvet comes over to us, a bright smile on her red lips when she spots Cheryl.

“You must be Cheryl Dartmore,” she says. “First female Alpha in a couple decades.”

“That we know of,” one of the other witches adds.

The burgundy witch rolls her eyes. “That we know of.”

“I know I’m rare,” Cheryl says, giving her a wry smile. “Mercer made a point to mention it as well.”

The older witch winces. “Yes, well, the less said about that monster, the better.”

Cheryl lets go of my hand to go into the bag she brought. She takes the ledger out and presents it to the witch, whose eyes widen when she looks at it.

“Is that the ledger?” she asks.

Cheryl nods. “We have a copy, to be clear. We’re going to try and figure it out. The children from Limestone Ridge are half-siblings to our Omega, Oscar.”

“Of course,” she says as she takes it. “I’m Divina. I’ll be handling that case. I’ll make sure the Council give Oscar my direct number, and you can give us his. If we make headway, we’ll call. If you do, you’ll need to call us.”

“I’ll call,” I promise.

“Good. If you go around back, the Betas who want to join your pack are waiting to meet you.”

I immediately get excited. “I have Beta siblings?”

Divina shakes her head. “Oh, sorry. No, all your siblings were sold, as far as we can tell. There were no young kids around. Only a few bereaved mothers and a lot of trauma survivors. The twins claim their mother was pregnant by another Beta when Mercer came to town.”

Cheryl and Everett look at each other. They’re going to have to make the decision about this.

“If we can help them, I want to,” I tell my Alphas. “Even if they’re not related to me.”

Cheryl smiles. Everett nods reluctantly.

“Is Georgia…” I start, trailing off when Everett shakes his head.
