I walk away, and this time I don’t look back.

She screams into the darkness behind me as I leave her behind.

Chapter Forty-Two

Everett

CherylandOscararestill sleeping when Vi and Ivy get home from school. Noah looks up at the sound of the door opening downstairs, and I realize I’m going to have to tell them what’s going on.

“Kind of forgot about those two,” Noah tells me, as I put my pencil in the book we’ve been working through and close it over.

“Yeah. So did I.”

They’re part of the pack, but I forget about them because Cheryl’s the one who looks after them. They’re her friends. She brought them in. Most of the time, I even forget Vi’s an Omega, because she’s under Cheryl’s care.

“I’d better go tell them. Stay here.”

He nods, getting up and waiting outside the room while I’m gone.

We’ve checked on Oscar and Cheryl a few times now, and they’ve been sleeping all day.

I know Cheryl would want to tell Vi and Ivy what’s happened herself, but she wouldn’t want them to be left in the dark while she recuperates. I’m not waking her up. She needs the rest.

She was shaky when she replenished her magic earlier to cast that spell to hide us from the pack. I should have known that meant she was drained. Hell, I should have realized it when she told me she teleported Oscar to the mansion. I was too panicked over what had happened to think about it.

Vi and Ivy are standing in the hall as I make my way down the stairs.

Vi looks up at me with worry in her eyes. She’s a delicate little thing with a shock of long red hair and a fragile disposition. A typical, sensitive Omega. Ivy’s taller and has a curvier frame. Her hair is almost as long, but it’s a dark brown color. She’s a bit quiet usually, but otherwise she’s a typical, practical Beta. She raises her eyebrows at me as I come down the stairs.

“What happened?” Ivy asks, when Vi seems too afraid to. “Where’s Cheryl?”

“She’s sleeping. It’s been a long night. We can talk in the lounge.”

They exchange a look before they follow me into the other room.

I lean against the bar because it doesn’t feel right to sit. I’m on edge, my wolf’s on edge.

I was distracted for a few hours, forcing myself to concentrate on studying, but the minute I start to think about what’s happening with Oscar I tense right up.

Ivy turns one of the sofas around and they sit down facing me.

“Well?” Ivy asks, taking Vi’s hand in hers.

It takes me a second to think about where to start.

Talking about Oscar’s problem feels wrong, but they’re pack. They need to know that something’s wrong. We shouldn’t be hiding things from each other.

“It’s about Oscar,” I start, watching the worry on Vi’s face deepen. “Everything’s going to be okay, but there’s something you should know…”

Chapter Forty-Three

Cheryl

Iwakeupindarkness, surrounded by my mates. My mouth feels dry, and I need a drink, but I don’t want to move. My head hurts and the room swirls a tiny little bit when I start to sit up. Oh, Goddess.

This must be what a magical hangover feels like.

I let myself fall back down. I feel weak and sweaty and light-headed.
