“There’s not going to be a next time,” I inform him. “We’re staying clear of anything that has even a hint of dark magic involved from now on.”

Carter doesn’t throw in his two cents or wrap his arms around me, which doesn’t seem like him. I look around and start to panic.

“Where are Carter and Amanda?”

“It’s okay!” Sara calls out. “I found them.”

I turn to see them rushing down the street toward us.

“I’m sorry,” Amanda says as they get to us. “I panicked and thought about the far end of the street. It’s where I teleported to when I used a map to get here in the first place.”

Carter catches me and lifts me off my feet, spinning me around before he hugs me close.

“Didn’t think you’d lost me, did you?” he murmurs.

A lump rises in my throat. I’m too emotional to answer him.

Thank Freya we all got out of there in one piece.

I break away from Carter and he looks at the ruined yard.

“I wonder who actually owned that dump,” he muses.

I feel a surge of magic, and I catch the scent of a necromancer, right before Dante appears with a red-headed girl in a yellow trench coat that’s splattered with blood.

“I’m so sorry we took so long,” the girl starts, looking at the empty space in front of us and giving me a bemused look. It takes her a second to speak. “I’m Kelly. You must be Rachel.”

“Nice to meet you, Kelly,” I tell her. “But you kind of missed the party.”

“I can see that. Wasn’t there supposed to be a house here, somewhere?”

“Oh, there was,” Carter says. “It sank when the Dark Lord came to collect souls.”

“The Dark Lord?” Dante growls, his gaze falling on his mate. “You’re not supposed to be here, Amanda.”

“I’m fine, and Iwassupposed to be here, Dante,” Amanda says. “My coven needed me.”

He doesn’t look too pleased about that. I’m sure my mates wouldn’t be either, if this was a situation I’d gotten into without them.

“Everyone got out and we’re all intact,” I tell him. “That wouldn’t have happened without Amanda and Cheryl. So, thank you. Both of you.”

“Well, my thanks goes to Silas and his dad,” Cheryl says. “They stopped that crazy necromancer. And not a moment too soon.”

She’s right, and their timing couldn’t have been better. If Dorothea hadn’t died before the Dark Lord arrived, I’m not sure what the outcome would have been. We all had a lucky escape.

“Silas is the medium, right?” Kelly asks.

“I am,” he says.

“Nice to meet my human equivalent,” she says.

“Right, well, if we’re not needed, we’ll be going,” Dante says, moving toward his mate.

“Dante!” Amanda chides, as her Omega puts his arm around her.

“No, he’s right,” I say, realizing this whole thing isn’t quite over, but it can be for some of my friends. “You guys should head home. We’ll stay and report this. The Council can contact you for statements later. We’ll deal with this part.”

We were going to call the Council of Witches anyway. Now we have two reasons.
