I’m blushing as I realize what I said. Why did I call Milos my husband? Was it because of him calling me wife and how much I liked it? “No, does it matter?”

She shrugs as she reviews my file. “I’m sorry, but I don’t do the implant. I don’t think it’s safe. However, I do the birth control shot. It is an excellent alternative to the implant. It’s good for ninety days and the chance of pregnancy is extremely slim.”

I consider it. The idea of having to return in ninety days doesn’t appeal. But hopefully I won’t need it. I give in. “I’ll take the shot.”

“Okay, give me a minute and I’ll be right back.” She smiles.

I consider how pissed Milos will be. In the end the shot is better. I just need a little time with all of this. The idea of getting pregnant within weeks of us getting married is too scary for me. We need time to be…I don’t know, an actual couple before the whole reason he’s marrying me is accomplished and he gets bored again. Maybe in the next ninety days I could get Milos to fall in love with me.

The doctor is back with a syringe capped. She lifts the sleeve of the ruffled shirt dress I’m wearing. Ouch, that stings. “Okay, you might feel a little out of sorts for a week or so. Based on the timing of your period ending a few days ago, you will be protected almost immediately.”

“Thank you. Um, would you mind giving me something to wrap around my arm? I told my fiancé that I was getting it removed. If he doesn’t see something covering it he’ll think it wasn’t,” I plead.

She frowns again as she considers. Then nods. Opening a drawer, she takes out a patch of gauze and brown tape that is self-adhesive. With a gentle press of the gauze, she passes the self-adhesive tape around my arm a few times. “Good luck, I’ll see you back in three months.”

“Thank you, so much.” Something flashes in her eyes, but it’s gone before I can understand it.

“You’re welcome. Call if you need anything else.” With a smile she leaves.

Celia

The new wedding planner,Vanessa, is a petite brunette with a fierce scowl who uses it often when people on the other end of the phone annoy her. I’m told the wedding will be here. It’s the easiest place for security to handle the almost seven hundred guests. Seven hundred guests? Holy crap.

Mother—why is it not weird calling her that?—is insistent the precious tennis court and basketball court are torn up and the space cleared for the room in addition to several trees. Once they are gone the cleared area will become the dance floor and where the guests will have dinner.

My mind is blown by the plan. Then I see the results where Vanessa has created a venue from practically nothing. I find it hard to believe it could be so beautiful. But I trust in her completely. I can only mumble my favorite colors and flowers, then everything starts snowballing. The basics only take an hour, the flowers are a little quicker but only because Milos said there was no price limit to anything. I’m left to pick out the menu with Mother as well as the cake. Somehow in only four hours everything is decided, and the wedding planner is gone.

As badly as I want to talk more with Mother, who is amazing with her patience, wicked sense of humor, and sweet compliments, she tells me she has a standing date with the former nanny of her children, who she is hoping she can talk into becoming our nanny.

I sigh as I look around the room. I guess it’s time to go home. Suddenly Milos is there, looking stunning as ever in sleek black on black.

An eyebrow goes up. “Ready for dinner?”

All I can do is nod. Why I’m suddenly shy, I have no idea.

His large hand goes out to me. “Come, kotyonok, I won’t bite. Unless you want me to.”

I blush at his wicked grin.

The words remind me of what Lydia said. Cringing deep inside, I take his hand. At the sting of electricity his lips quirk up. “Kazhdyy raz.”Every time, he exhales.

He really did feel it too? It wasn’t all in my head. One end of the twenty-seat table is set so we’re across from each other. He pulls out the chair for me.

“Thank you. And thank you for hiring a different planner. I’m sorry I got so…”

Milos leans back in his chair to study me. “Jealous, lacking in self-confidence?”

I’m blushing again, words won’t come, all I can do is nod as I my eyes fall to the white lace tablecloth.

“Celia, look at me.” The command will not be ignored. Yellow is glowing with an intensity that traps all the air in my throat. “I promised you I would not be with anyone else. That started the moment I put my ring on your finger. It does not matter the words have not been said yet, you are my wife and I will give you the loyalty you deserve. My hope is that we can make a good and happy marriage based on mutual respect and a very strong sexual attraction.”

It’s there in his eyes, he means what he is saying. He is being as honest as he can bring himself to be. “I’m not interested in golden showers or fisting,” I blurt out.

He blinks, once then again. “What did you say?”

“I’m not interested in golden showers or fisting.” I push the words out a little louder.

Seconds later the maid is setting a salad plate down in front of me, as well as a plate of chicken parmigiana with carrots. Her face is flaming. Oh god, how freaking embarrassing.
