“No doubt,” Tyreek added.

Sitting back in his seat, Saint thought over what they’d said as he tossed back the last of his drink. Since sixteen, he’d been wrapped up in Tristan. True enough, he had situations on the side with several women over the years, none of which made him feel as quickly attached to them as he felt to Harmony—not even Whitney. If Saint was to be honest with himself, he was glad she called things off, because he, too, worried about catching feelings. But it was easier if that came from her because it made him feel as if he was still in control.

“I’ll think about it,” was all he offered before standing and heading to the bar to get them another round of drinks. Tomorrow morning, he’d see Harmony again, and he’d need to have his mind, heart, and dick on one accord.

After Saint’sfirst day at the library, he invited Harmony to grab a bite to eat, not expecting her to actually agree, but she did. The pace was chill, and Saint was able to keep himself busy organizing and logging titles.

It was the first day since the divorce where from nine to five, he hadn’t thought about the fact that he wasn’t recording and performing music anymore. Having someone as beautiful as Harmony to look at and joke with throughout the day was an added bonus.

Over the years, Saint had acquired a selection of places to frequent while in town that wouldn’t draw too much attention to himself. He didn’t want to overwhelm Harmony by taking her somewhere that he’d never been to before because he wasn’t sure how people would respond to seeing him there.

He’d finally announced on his social media that he was taking a break from music, unable to call it retirement. He also asked his fans not to stream his music where it was available for download or purchase. That sparked a lot of conversations as to what was going on between him and his label, but Saint offered no details and allowed everyone’s minds to wander.

“Aight, don’t let the appearance fool you,” Saint warned, pulling his Jaguar into the parking lot of the small, white building. It was so lowkey it didn’t even have a sign out front. The hole in the wall restaurant was frequented by regulars. Not too many people just wandered in off the streets unless the restaurant was recommended to them by someone else. “You’re about to have the best soul food of your life.”

“Okay, I’m going to take your word for it,” Harmony agreed with a relaxed smile.

That day, she’d dressed in a form fitting black jumpsuit that made it difficult for Saint to keep his eyes off her. Up until then, he’d only seen her in loose fitting attire, lingerie, and naked. Seeing her toned, slim frame and hips accentuated by the jumpsuit felt like a gift he couldn’t wait to unwrap on Christmas.

After tucking his piece at his waist, Saint went to her side of the car to open the door for her. With her chunky heeled boots, they were the same height. Every time he looked into her eyes, Saint had to resist the urge to kiss her. And as always, she smelled so fuckinggood—powdery and fresh—like her body was a pillow that he needed to take rest.

From the moment they stepped into the restaurant, they were greeted and acknowledged by everyone inside. Saint was led to his typical table, which was in the back of the restaurant in the corner of the kitchen. As he pulled a wooden chair back for Harmony, one of the waitresses that often worked while he was there, greeted them.

“Hey, baby boy. It’s good to see you,” Tamela spoke.

“What’s up, Tam?” Saint replied, taking the seat across from Harmony. “This is my friend, Harmony. Harmony, this is Tam.”

The two waved and spoke before Tamela asked what they wanted to drink. Harmony asked for lemonade while Saint opted for a beer. He looked around the kitchen, noticing everything was still the same—white flooring and walls, stainless steel appliances. Four workers per shift, all dressed in white and black.

“So…” Harmony said in a sing-songy voice. “How was your first day?”

“It was actually pretty cool. Just the distraction I needed.”

“Good. That makes me happy.”

“What do you have a taste for? They have pretty much anything you can think of.”

“Hmm…” Harmony’s mouth twisted to the side and head tilted as she considered his question. “Maybe fried fish or meatloaf. What are you getting?”

“I’ll get the fish and you can get the meatloaf, and we’ll share.”

“Sounds good.”

After Tamela dropped off their drinks, Saint gave their dinner orders before requesting, “Tell me about yourself.”

“I hate this part of meeting someone new. It always feels like an interview.”

“Well, I already like you, so that should remove some of the pressure.”

Her eyes widened before lowering playfully. With a low voice, she confirmed, “You like me?”

It took Saint a few seconds to confirm, though he’d already admitted it. “Unfortunately.”

She laughed like he hoped she would, eyes almost sealing shut as she did. “Why unfortunately?” His eyes shifted briefly to her lips wrapping around her straw, and it was taking everything inside of him to not visualize them wrapped around his dick.

“Liking anyone right now was not a part of my plans.”
