Okay, so I told a little white lie about my so-called job. Sky didn’t need to know. Nobody would know if I could help it.

“I thought shit like that only happened for people working in those top-notch corporations?”

“Yeah, well, what can I say, I got lucky.”

“So you’ll be here on the weekends now?”

“Yep,” I cooed with a smile. “Guess that means you’re stuck with me.”

She clasped a hand to her chest in phony shock. “How ever will I survive?”

We shared a brief chuckle and shook our heads at each other. Sky followed me as I spun on my heel and made steady work of sliding the heavier duffel out the way. She sat on my bed while I began unpacking my clothes.

“Did you get my text about the party tonight?”

“Yeah, I saw it. We were slammed at work, and I wasn’t where I could message you back.”

She threw up a hand. “No biggie. Are you gonna make an appearance?”

“Eh, I don’t know. I haven’t given it much thought.”

“You should totally come. There’s gonna be beer, hard liquor, dancing, the whole works.”

“How is that even possible? Security is air-tight around this fortress. Won’t we get in trouble for underage drinking?”

Sky smirked at me like I’d asked a stupid question. “Right,” I scoffed, shaking my head. “The Ravagers.”

“Yep. So what do you say? You down?”

“Maybe.” I shrugged. “I’ll think about it. But before I consider anything, I desperately need to wash my ass.” I fumbled through the bags my clothes were in, cursing as I closed my eyes, breathing in deeply.

“What’s wrong?”

“I fucked around and forgot my shampoo.” I snorted to myself. Guess I had Jace to thank for that.

“No worries. You can borrow mine.” Sky hopped off the bed and ran out the room. When she returned, she handed over two huge bottles of some fancy name-brand shampoo and conditioner I couldn’t pronounce if I’d tried.

“Thank you. You’re a lifesaver. I’ll bring it back to your room when I’m done.”

“Keep it. I have stockpiles of it.”

“You sure?”

She nodded. “Of course. That’s what friends are for.” Sky smiled at me then clasped her hands together. “I’ll leave you to it and head back to my room so I can start getting ready for the party. I really hope you decide to go, Samara. It’ll be a lot of fun.”

When she was gone, I relocked the door and raced back to my bed, blowing out a breath as I chucked the two empty bags to the floor and grabbed the heavier duffle Damien had given me.

“Holy shit…”

Buried down in the bottom was a shit ton of ammo boxes, with two pistols, a large assortment of blades, plus some garter belts I could wear under my clothes to conceal the blades in. A smile tugged at my lips as I rezipped it back up. It was perfect, exactly what I needed to get the job done.

But fuck…where the hell am I supposed to hide all this shit?I glanced around my room, my smile slowly dissipating. This room wasn’t anything like my old bedroom back in that piece of shit trailer park. There, I had a hole in the wall behind my dresser where I’d kept all my money hidden safe and sound—that was until my drugged-out bitch of a mother had somehow found it and stole everything right from under my nose. I couldn’t make that same mistake here. No. If anyone were to find it, I’d be fucked. I’d get expelled. My only option would be to run as fast and as far away from Storm Ridge Valley as I possibly could, because only God knew what would happen to me if Damien were to find out I’d been compromised.

Shit. Shit. Shit!

This was a problem. A big one I had to solve.

And fast.
