"Seven years." Black Feather answered and stared at her.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bring up something painful for you." Hannah touched her hand.
"I have decided that I probably won't have a child. Deer Runner says it makes no difference to him, but at first, I think it did. He has reconciled himself now, but I know he would love a child."
"Perhaps it will come… someday." Hannah encouraged.
"Perhaps." She looked at Hannah and smiled. "Or perhaps you will have children and I can help you take care of them."
Hannah looked at her startled. "I hadn't thought that far ahead." Hannah admitted.
"You will marry Lone Wolf, though, won't you?"
"Yes, if he still wants me…"
"Why would he not, he loves you."
Hannah stared into her eyes, "He still has not said so."
"Must one say so?" Black Feather turned her head in question.
"Well….it would be nice… "
"We have not had time for nice since we left the Navaho's." Black Feather reminded her.
"This is true. We haven't."
"Marriage is as new to Lone Wolf as it is to you. Give him time to be the husband you want so badly in your heart."
Hannah nodded, "Yes, when he put that knife to Lone Wolf I wanted to kill him myself. I've never felt like that before. If he'd have hurt him bad, I'd have died myself."
"You are truly in love, Hannah, and I am glad. Lone Wolf is a good man, and he will make a good chief when the time comes."
"Yes, I think you are right. Tell me, Black Feather, is it right to marry Lone Wolf when I am still married to Liam? I want to marry him, must marry him, but I worry about what might happen if the whites take me."
"If you love Lone Wolf in your heart, it is right." She told her. "And he will not let anyone take you from him."
"I do love him… " Hannah sighed. "I fought my feelings, but I cannot deny it when he holds me in his arms. It is where I want to be… with him. When he kisses me, I cannot control what happens to me. To be loved by him must be so powerful a feeling."
"Then do not fret about your white husband, you may never see him again."
Hannah nodded, "You are right."
"I am glad you will be his wife."
"Why?"
"You are brave, and strong, and you want peace. Someday he will be chief, and you will be his wife. A good wife can help her husband in many ways, leading him to what is right for his people. I think you will do this."
"Liam touched me many times, and I never was with child. Perhaps I too cannot have children. He will be chief and if I cannot bear him a child, he might seek another wife."
Black Feather smiled, "Liam was not Lone Wolf. He will give you many children."
Hannah blushed, "I hadn't gotten that far in my thinking. I still can't get over how much I want to be with him. But, what if later he desires an Indian wife, what will I do? I cannot share him. Would he take a second wife?"
"Lone Wolf is different than many others. He seeks to love with the heart. Some Indian maidens seek protection, or security, or success. If he gives his heart to you, you will have it forever. That is part of who he is. He would not marry another."
"Luki is very beautiful." Hannah admitted.
