“Okay, I’m out of here. It’s too early to be up and Joy is making us breakfast later.” That comment makes all of us guys groan at her straight up bragging. She grins sweetly at us and chuckles with giddiness. “Everything’s good Saint so stop stressing out. Oh, and FYI, you'll never replace me because I’m your lead Reindeer.” She sticks her tongue out with all the sassiness that is Rudolph.

I may make her work on Christmas for that. “Keep pushing it Rudy and someone’s going to get their feelings hurt when he comes back to town and takes all our happiness away. It’s a horrible idea to test faith like this and you all know it. Haven’t we lost enough already?” My voice booms over the zoom and I throw the mug across the room in a temper tantrum. I instantly regret it when the meeting goes silent at my outburst.

I hate feeling so angry all the time.

My friends and family are staring at me through the computer screen and I just log off without saying goodbye. The portrait of my parents above the fireplace reminds me why I have to be strong. I will never let their legacy die.

I was okay with the emptiness and I was slowly getting over the rage inside. If love is stripped away from us again…I don’t think we’ll survive the pain.

I know I won’t.

We are walking a fine line on the contract’s edge and I’m not sure I'm willing to give up the town this time around. Maybe we should just let it go and move on.
