“I’m sure you had a good reason.” Mulberry smiled.

“Yeah, to make me work longer hours,” Nick grumbled.

Henri slapped Nick on the back. “It’s about time. Are there any other announcements I should be making?”

Nick led them through the hallway to the outside. Mulberry squinted in the bright light before sliding her sunglasses on.

“No, I can’t think of anything.”

“Is that apartment of yours big enough?”

“There is plenty of space, yes.”

“Good. When is your mom taking a holiday break?”

“The third week of December.”

“So lots of time. You need to take a trip home.”

“We had planned that last night, but my boss said I had to work double to get out a product early.” Nick grinned.

Henri shrugged. “Could you blame me? I think it’s going to be our bestseller. I need you in the office for a few hours. Mulberry, can I get my driver to drop you off?”

“I will take Mulberry home, Dad and then meet you in the office.”

“I’d rather you come with me.”

“Dad, I’ll be there in two hours, tops.”

Henri glanced at Mulberry. “Fine. See you in an hour.”

Henri waved and got in his car.

Nick slid an arm around her, nuzzling her ear as he whispered. “Sorry about that. He totally sprung that on me. I had planned on going with you.”

“It’s fine. Another team on me for a few hours is fine,” she said. But oddly, she felt disappointed.

“I’m going to update my other boss,” Nick mumbled.

“Okay,” Mulberry pulled out her phone as he opened the door for her, taking in the view of his long legs as he paced on the sidewalk of the studio.

And she wouldn’t tell Nick but hoped the more they pretended to be in a relationship, the higher the chance it would draw out whoever was after her. By the time Nick dropped her off at her mom’s location, Mulberry’s anxiety was high.

“Hi, mom,” Mulberry called, opening her mom’s trailer door.

“Hi, sweetie. I’ve missed you so much,” Grace hugged. Mulberry instantly felt better. “I’ve missed you too. Come eat.”

“Yum!” Mulberry started opening packages and plating food.

“Sheldon asked me to stay with him and Emma this morning.”

“Are you going to?”

“I don’t want them at risk,” Grace’s brow furrowed.

“Mom?” Mulberry prodded.

“It’s just a little awkward. Sheldon still wishes we were an item, but I don’t see him in that romantic way. And honestly, I just needed space. Filming this show is lovely, but the long days are draining. Maybe I’m just not cut out for this anymore.
