Hazard sighed. “That’s fair.”

“I don’t feel pity for you,” I said, standing up. “But, we will send him back to hell. In the meantime, the only way to set you free is to kill you. Or make everyone think you’re dead.”

“There’s no reason to help him,” Anne said.

“No, there’s not,” I said. “But, I’d rather him go.”

Anne only glared, the snakes around her head hissing at me in unison.

Sylvia reached for her, her touch almost instantly calming her.

“Why did he send you?” Sylvia asked Hazard. “Alex is very obviously a stronger witch.”

“A distraction,” Hazard said. “A warning. Our goal was to try and bring you to him alive, even though we knew that couldn’t happen.”

“How did you get past my wards?” I asked, frowning.

“Alfred,” Hazard said. “He knows you’re here obviously. But he doesn’t know you’re in heat, so you have that going for you.”

I glared at him for a moment and sighed. This was a mess.

I looked up at Anne and Sylvia, grimacing. “I don’t know what to do.”

“I thought you could do this alone,” Anne said.

Her words were sharp, and with our bond, they hurt even more.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered. “I didn’t want either one of you hurt.”

“Alex, I could have eaten those demons for breakfast,” Sylvia said.

My stomach twisted and I swallowed hard.

It would take awhile for me to understand that I wasn’t alone after all this time.

Still, it wasn’t fair to them.

“So,” I sighed, standing up. “I’m going to make it look like you died, and then the three of us are out of here. As for your demon friends, they are going to remember what I tell them.”

“I’m going to get a bag together with our stuff,” Anne said, turning to go to the bedroom. “With nest stuff too, Alex.”

My throat tightened again. “Thank you.”

Sylvia gave me one more look and then followed Anne.

Fuck, I had fucked up.

Hazard watched them go and then looked back at me. “Thank you,” he said, his eyes wide.

“If I ever see you again, I will actually kill you,” I whispered.

Hazard nodded. “Understood. You never will.”

The fear in his eyes made me believe him.

“Alright,” I said. “Let’s make the bastard actually believe this.”
