"They're in the woods," Grayson said.

I bit my lip and sucked in a deep breath. "Ok," I said quietly. "Let's go back to the room. They already know we are out in the open and it's still not safe to shift."

Grayson nodded then turned back towards the direction of my room. I stayed close behind him, straining to hear where they were. It sounded like they had stopped moving, which made me even more nervous. What if they circled and came after us?

As we drew closer to the front of the motel, Grayson slowed down as he reached the edge of the parking lot. I peeked around the corner of the building to see two large creatures standing on the sidewalk. One was a dragon with red scales and long horns protruding from its forehead. The other was a giant blue dragon with wings that stretched from side to side.

We hurried into the room while they were checking the street for our whereabouts and locked the door behind us. A deadbolt would provide little protection from a dragon, but it was instinct to lock it.

"We need to talk with that new friend of yours," Grayson said, "I have a feeling he may know something about this.

" Fine," I replied, knowing he would do it with or without me, "Tomorrow."

Chapter Six

Draco

The sun had started to set behind the trees as I sat in my car on my way home. It was a nice day, and it felt good just to sit out here and enjoy some of the last rays of sunlight before they vanished entirely. I pulled into my driveway and parked next to the house.

I got out of the car with a smile on my face and stretched for a few seconds. The sky was so beautiful tonight that I didn't want to waste any time, but there was something else I wanted to do first. As soon as I stepped inside the front door, I stopped dead in my tracks. Pieces of a broken vase were scattered around my feet.

"Kitty?" I called softly, looking around for her. She wasn't anywhere near me, which meant she must be outside somewhere, probably sitting on the porch watching over us from her spot up high. "Is everything okay? Where are you?" I asked again, stepping into the kitchen.

When I finally found her, I let out an audible gasp. There she was, sitting in the middle of the floor with her legs crossed and a cat toy dangling between them. Her eyes were closed, and she seemed peaceful, but when I crouched down next to her, she looked at me with those huge green eyes and purred loudly.

"Hey sweetheart," I said, leaning in to kiss her head. "How'd you get in the house like this?" I asked, reaching my hand down to pet her. She licked my fingers a couple of times before getting comfortable and closing her eyes again.

"Yo, Drako!" Doyle yelled from the porch, " Where you at?"

"Right here," I replied, standing back up to face him. He came stomping over and gave me a big hug. "How's it going?" he asked, his voice muffled against my chest.

"Good, I guess. How about you?" I replied.

"Fine."

Doyle went over and leaned on the railing that ran around the deck. The sunset was beautiful, with the clouds casting red and orange shadows across the lawn. He wrapped his arms around the railing and tilted his head upward to stare up at the sky.

"You know what? I'm gonna go grab some dinner at the bar tonight. You wanna come?"

"Yeah sure, I'll tag along. Just let me throw away all this trash and I can meet you over there." I said, gesturing toward the mess on the floor.

He nodded. "Sounds good."

I cleaned up the room quickly and threw the trash in the garbage bin outside before heading to the bar. I grabbed a beer and settled into a seat at one of the tables in the back. My phone buzzed and I saw it was a text from Scarlett.

'Are you okay?'

'Yep!'

It was short, but it made me feel better. Doyle showed up not too long after that and we ordered drinks and food. We spent most of the night chatting and drinking. I found myself laughing more than usual, even if I didn't understand why.

"So what's the story with your new girl?" He asked with a grin.

"What do you mean?"

"You know what I mean. That girl you were here with last night. The one with car trouble."

"Oh yeah, she's great. What about her?" I asked, looking at him curiously.
