"I have a dinner scheduled with him. I'll look for it then."

"This is dangerous, Nissa."

"Of course, it is."

Amelia pursed her lips together. "I can't stop you, can I?"

"No, you can't. And I gather that this ledger is extremely important?"

"Yes, it is.

“Then I’ll do what I need to do.”

I felt like I was having an out of body experience. I was standing in Lock's kitchen, pretending it was mine, making dinner and drinks like these were my best mates. The way Lock and Saint were busting my balls, they definitely talked as if we were friends.

"You're really in this shit now, aren't you?" Saint asked as I carved off an orange peel and put it in Saff's drink. Then I added a lemon peel for Kaya's lemon drop and poured an uncorked chardonnay for Nissa.

Saff and Kaya were keeping Nissa busy in the living room as they chatted.

"I didn't exactly expect this to happen," I sparred back as I finished the drinks and set them on the counter for a moment.

Saint chuckled. "Yeah, well, best-laid plans and all that."

"So do either one of you have advice or not?" I asked Lock as I handed a sample of the chicken marsala over to Saint to taste test.

Lock chuckled. "Fuck, I have zero advice for you. Matter of fact, I think you're toast."

I sighed. "That's not helpful."

"Well, what was I supposed to say? Either way, she's going to be pissed the fuck off when she finds out you are a lying bastard."

"I'm doing my best to make it right, guys."

"My only advice is to be ready to say something. Obviously, you didn't mean to fall in love with her. And she's not going to take it well when she finds out you work for Rogues."

I shook my head as I placed the drinks on the wooden serving tray to carry into the living room. "I'm not talking about Rogues. A part of me thinks that she'll probably understand that. I'm talking about the fact that I have worked for her father for a lot longer than she thinks."

Saint whistled low, grabbed Kaya's drink, and took a sip. "Chivalry is fucked, but this is delicious."

I frowned at him. "Kaya is going to have your balls for stealing some of her drink."

He shrugged. "Actually, you're more afraid of her than I am."

I laughed. "She's coming along with the training, I’m telling you. I'd sleep with one eye open if I were you."

Saint shrugged as his gaze slid over Kaya, the love clear in his eyes. It was funny how easily I could recognize love now.

I was going to have so much explaining to do.

“I'm just trying to get Nissa out of this alive, in one piece, with her father and Igno behind bars and her safe. Anything else is a bonus.”

"Are you anticipating problems from Montgomery?" Saint asked as his gaze lingered on Kaya.

As I cleaned up my workspace, I kept an eye on the women, making sure that Nissa handled everything in stride.
