She wanted this relationship to work.

“Okay, gotta run sis. I’ll pick you up for dinner tomorrow night, okay?” Aurora agreed and Ethan ended the call. She wondered if her brother had a girlfriend. It was about time he settled down.

“Breakfast is ready!” Aiden’s voice came from the kitchen.

Aurora smiled to herself.

She could get used to this.

“You need help with the printer?” A brown-haired man in a white crisp shirt and black pants asked her as she was fiddling with the buttons on the printer at her desk.

She had been assigned a cubicle that was so small she could barely fit her essentials on it. Still, Aurora was trying not to be disappointed. The goal was to be happy about her new job. But she had been trying to print her article for the past 20 minutes and the follow-up meeting in which everyone’s pieces would be discussed was about to start. She blamed being late in the first place on her morning sickness.

A lot of her time had been wasted puking in the morning when she should have been completing her piece. Trisha had tried to help her get ready but by the time she had reached the office, she knew she was going to be late for the meeting.

The man who was offering help to her now was no less than an angel for her. She had seen him around the office but she didn’t know his name.

“Yes, please.” Aurora sighed, getting out of the way to let him inspect the printer.

“I’m Tom. I’m on the editorial team. I think you’re new here?” He asked, giving her a smile as he stood beside her.

“Yes, I’m Aurora.”

“Here you go. Sometimes the pages get stuck,” Tom pressed a few buttons on the printer and the whirring sound of pages being printed started coming.

Ah, finally.

Aurora hadn’t made any friends in the office even though she had been here for two weeks now. So far, she had only talked to the co-editor twice and to the receptionist who greeted her daily. The rest of the writers hadn’t paid much attention to her, seemingly always busy on their laptops. Aurora was used to the small yet lively office of the local magazine where she had worked. Everyone had something to say to each other there. She missed that.

“Thank you so much.” Aurora said, collecting the pages. She gave Tom a warm smile.

“You’re welcome.”

Tom seemed like a nice laid-back kind of guy. It would be nice to have a friend in the office who could help her get by.

Thankfully, Aurora’s piece got approved. She had felt proud of herself for powering through, despite the morning sickness.

She texted Aiden, letting him know the good news and what time he should pick her up after work. Tonight, she would tell Aiden about her pregnancy. Things had been good between them. They saw each other almost every other day. She would spend some nights of the week at his place, an arrangement that they were beginning to adjust to. Aiden had been trying to convince her to move in but Aurora wanted to tell him about the pregnancy first before they made such a big decision.

Aiden was very affectionate towards her. He wasn’t very talkative, but she could tell he made an effort with her. He made plans with her, dropping her texts to schedule when they would meet.

But for some reason, she felt he was still closed off at times. Maybe it would just take some time for him to completely open up to her.

Things with Ethan were good too. They had gone to dinner with him once and there had been no tension. It seemed the reservations Ethan had about Aiden were gone now. They talked with the ease they had before.

Now, she only had to get this piece of news over with

.

Chapter 12:

The evening had not gone as planned.

Aurora tossed around in her small bed, unable to sleep. It was a week after the evening she had planned to tell Aiden about her pregnancy. She had not been able to sleep for the past few nights. She could not help but remember Aiden’s face when she asked him about his ex.
