“You want my sister to pay money to have dinner with her best friend?” I don’t like the sarcasm in his tone and I make sure he knows it.

“I can speak for myself, Everest. Stop being a dick. It’s just to make sure that he isn’t bought by someone he doesn’t want to have dinner with. He’s actually in love with someone else but hasn’t told her yet.”

Everest’s eyes narrow on Steele and he growls. “You don’t say, Steele.” His voice turns silky-smooth. “Why don’t you tell me who it is that you’re in love with? Maybe I can help.”

Steele rolls his eyes. “We’ll talk about this later,” he mutters. He shoots my brother a hard look but Everest never looks away.

“Fine,” he spits out. “I’ll be looking forward to it.”

I eye the two of them like a spectator at a tennis match. “Is there something going on here? You’re both acting a little odd.”

Steele smirks. “Your brother is always odd. But you shouldn’t talk about him like that.”

Everest groans. “Oh, har-de har. You’re just fucking hilarious.”

Then he turns to me. “Why don’t you let me drive you home?”

Snarling, I stalk back upstairs to find the rest of my things. “Since you asked so damn nicely…fine. But I better not hear any fighting! You two need to grow up and start acting like adults.”

Steele grimaces. “I will if he will.”

“Same goes but he hasn’t been acting like an adult first.”

I scrunch up my nose and glare at them both. “That doesn’t even make sense but behave.” I stalk off, muttering. “I feel like I should turn the hose on the two of you.”

When I look back, both men are fake-smiling at me but I swear I see their mouths moving.

Ugh! Men are such idiots. And what the hell is with the bro code? Shaking my head, I stalk to the room and gather up my purse and jacket.

Time to face one of these damn men and get them wrangled into acting like decent human beings.

I’m sure that will be super-easy. I roll my eyes and stalk downstairs, trying my best to push my doubts aside.

This will all work out. It has to. I refuse to choose between my brother and my best friend.

CHAPTER6

Steele

“What the hell is your problem?” I hiss at Everest out of the side of my mouth, keeping a weather eye on Chastity as she climbs the stairs to the guest bedroom.

I wanted to put her in mine last night but it just didn’t feel right while she was sound asleep.

The next time we meet though, I’m going to make sure that I win every damn thing I can. Including a kiss and having her sleeping in my bed all night, wrapped around me.

I’ve wanted Chastity for so long. I just can’t wait anymore. I need to make her mine.

And if it takes a little finesse and trickery, I’m okay with that.”

“What the hell are you playing at, man?”

Everest’s dark eyes are almost black with rage.

“I’m not playing at anything. I’m just telling you like it is. I don’t want you snookering my baby sister.”

“I meant what I said, Everest. I want her heart, her soul. Every damn piece of her.”

“What happened to the bro code?” he asks bitterly.
