“Aw, it’s so cute that you think it’s the Cage DNA making her so stubborn,” I teased. “It definitely wouldn’t be a mixture of Bradshaw and Moreitti bloodlines.”

“Nope,” Gabriella said dryly. “Not a drop of my DNA has an ounce of stubbornness in it.”

The two of us locked eyes and burst out laughing. After a moment, Piper giggled too. Meanwhile, Cannon wiped at Piper’s sweating brow, his fingers shaking so badly my heart squeezed with love for my son.

“Ahh—,” Piper suddenly screamed as the next contraction hit hard. “Fuu—ck!”

I switched into nurse mode, and the next few minutes passed in a blur of encouraging Piper to push. Once little Danica’s head was out, I commanded Piper to stop pushing.

“You’re insane!” my daughter-in-law shrieked. “It hurts. It hurts. It hurts.”

Ignoring her was hard, but I had more important matters to deal with. Like clearing out Danica’s airway. “Push again,” I urged, and Piper screamed as the baby’s wide shoulders ripped her, but the moment I guided the baby out and laid her on Piper’s chest, she no longer noticed the pain. While she and Cannon were distracted with meeting their screaming bundle of joy, I got to work delivering the afterbirth and then stitching up the mean tear Danica had gifted her momma.

“How is it going down there?” Gabriella asked quietly.

“She’s looking good,” I assured. “Our girl did a fabulous job, Nonna.”

“Thanks to you,” she whispered emotionally.

I glanced up after securing the last stitch. Pulling off one of my gloves, I grasped her hand. “Because ofus,” I corrected. “We did this together, Gabriella. Piper had a great support team today.”

Our gazes went to our children, who were both cooing at our beautiful granddaughter. She had a head full of dark hair, but even now, we could see the dimple in at least one cheek. Cannon stroked his thumb over Danica’s cheek as a tear spilled onto the top of her head.

“Hello, my beautiful little morning star,” he murmured. “Mommy and Daddy are so happy you’re here, Danica.”

“I think…” Gabriella swallowed hard. “I think they’re going to do great as parents.”

“Yeah,” I agreed around the lump in my throat. “I think they will be just fine.”

Gabriella

Danica hid behind Liam and Axton, looking up at her father with tear-filled blue eyes. “But I want to go to the party, Daddy!”

“There will be boys there!” Cannon growled.

“There are boys at school too, but you make me go there every day!” she shouted back. With her grandfathers acting as a shield, she was all kinds of confident in the face of her father’s wrath.

“At school, there are teachers and other adults who will keep little assholes from doing things to my baby girl that will get them buried in the backyard.”

“Our backyard is the Pacific Ocean,” Danica said with a huff.

“Exactly,” Cannon said with a predatory grin.

“You’re so unfair! All my friends are going, and you won’t let me go for even half an hour. I just want to hang out with my friends, and you’re acting like I’m going to get pregnant! News flash, Daddy. Mom already put me on the pill, so it’s not as if, even if I were having sex, I would actually get pregnant…” Her voice trailed off as both Liam and Axton slowly turned to look down at her.

Now three dominating rockers were glowering at my poor little granddaughter, and I couldn’t let them torment her any longer.

“You three are being ridiculous,” I told them as I pushed past my husband to put an arm around Danica’s shoulders. Like her dad, she was tall. I felt like a shrimp in the room of giants. Even when Piper was there, I was still the shortest person in the room. “Danica should be allowed to go to this party.”

“Brie,” Liam grumbled.

“No way,” Axton seconded.

“I’ll kill any prick who touches her!”

“Why are you so convinced I’m into guys?” Danica huffed. “Maybe I like girls.”

“You think I don’t already know your sexual orientation, Danica?” Cannon asked softly. “If you were into girls, I would support you one hundred percent. No matter your preferences, I fully stand behind you. But you’re not a lesbian, are you? Or bi? Or pan?”
