“Who do I love most in the whole world?”

“Mom and us kids,” she whispered.

“Who would I die to protect?”

“Mom and us kids,” she repeated.

“Do you believe me that Mom is okay?”

She hesitated but then nodded.

“Good. Now please, can I have a hug? I really need it after your mom scared the crap out of me.”

She threw her arms around him and hugged him tight, and all the tension and fear I’d been holding on to finally eased. Shane’s hand shook when he touched my back. “Thank Gods,” he whispered, scrubbing his other hand over his cheeks as he let his tears fall unashamedly.

Once Love Bug and the boys were calmer, Luca was able to tell us about the new additions to our family. “Aidan and Ciarán are both doing great. No need for the NICU. They are even bigger than Ethan and Elijah were, even thought they were born a week earlier than those two. Vi did beautifully. She got to kiss the babies before they took them to the nursery, and now she’s in recovery until the epidural wears off and she can feel her lower body more. But then she’s going to be in pain, so they’ll be giving her meds for that. Hopefully by tonight, she’ll be up to holding the babies.”

Layla hugged him hard. “How are you doing, honey?”

“Still shaking a little from all the excitement and fear, but I’m good, Mom. Vi was the one who had to go through all the hard stuff.” He grasped me and pulled me over into their hug. “She’s okay. I swear she’s okay.”

Unable to speak without breaking into tears of relief, all I could do was nod. Shane and then Jesse joined our group hug, and the five of us just stood there, feeling blessed that we had two more additions to our family, and that Violet was going to be just fine.
