“Later” came a lot sooner than Allie had expected. Like, less than twenty minutes after they sat down to start painting their ornaments.

Nick walked in, all smiles and playful greetings for the Littles crowded into the room. But the second he spotted Allie, his smile vanished. And when his gaze landed on Michelle, he looked like a deer caught in the headlights.

Of course. Why hadn’t she thought of that? The only thing Michelle had really done while Allie had been at her sleepover was, well, whatever she’d had planned with Nick.

Had their scene gone wrong? Had he done something he wasn’t supposed to? Dozens of questions raced through Allie’s mind, all without answers. And since it seemed obvious she wasn’t going to get them from her girlfriend, she’d just have to go to the other source. Once she could get him alone, if that ever happened.

Her chance came a few minutes later when he disappeared out into the hallway again.

“Shelly, I gotta potty.”

“Okay, babygirl. I think there’s a bathroom right across the hall.” Michelle glanced up, still obviously distracted by the intricate design she was painting on the glass ball in her hand. “Do you need me to go with you?”

“Nope, I’m a big girl.”

“Mmhmm. Just to the bathroom and then right back. Understood?”

“Yes, Ma’am.” Slipping from the table, Allie hurried toward the door Nick had just stepped through, her head whipping from side to side as she searched him out.

There! His long strides had already carried him halfway down the hall, so she had to hurry to catch up with him.

Launching herself at him just before he turned a corner, Allie grabbed onto his arm and dragged him off to the side of the hall, as far away from prying eyes as she could manage. “All right, asshole,” she snarled as she spun on him, planting her hands on her hips. “What did you do to Michelle?”

“What? I didn’t do anything to Michelle.” Frowning, he crossed his arms over his broad chest and glared down at her. “And watch your language, Little girl.”

Or what? The taunt danced across her tongue, but she managed to swallow it back. This wasn’t the time for teasing the big bad Dom, no matter how curious she was about what he would do if she pushed him far enough.

Matching his glare, she tilted her chin up. “You did something. I saw the way you looked at her when you saw us in the activity center. I swear, if you hurt her, I’ll report you to Master Derek so fast it’ll make your head spin.”

“I didn’t…” With a resigned sigh, he uncrossed his arms and scrubbed a hand over his face.

All of a sudden, he didn’t look so scary anymore. He just looked… sad. Kinda like Michelle had, earlier.

What had gone down between them?

“I promise you, it’s not what you’re thinking. But what happened last night is between Michelle and me. If she wants to tell you, then that’s fine, but I’m not sharing her personal business.”

Dammit, she didn’t want to respect him for that, but she couldn’t seem to help herself. “Her personal business is my business, too.”

He hesitated, obviously struggling with what to say next. “All I can say is, I enjoyed my time with Michelle. Possibly too much.”

“What the hell is that supposed to mean?”

“Language,” he growled, his glare returning with a vengeance.

“You’re not my Daddy!”

His head jerked back, as if she’d slapped him. “You’re right. I’m not, and I don’t have any right to reprimand you. I’m sorry.”

Apparently unconcerned with waiting to see if she was going to accept the apology, he turned on his heel and strode down the hall. Allie stood frozen in place, staring at his retreating form.

“Allie? You okay?”

Sadie’s soft, hesitant question jolted Allie out of her stunned silence. “No. Something is going on with Nick and Michelle, and we need to get to the bottom of it.”

The other woman’s face lit up at the prospect of more shenanigans. “What did you have in mind?”

Michelle
