“Sunshine? What happened? What’s wrong?” Lex shucks off his cowboy boots at the back door before jogging into the kitchen.

“Everyone is okay,” I say tentatively. Lex visibly relaxes, his shoulders lowering as he heaves out a sigh.

“Shite, ye had me running like a wild man up here. Weren’t you supposed to be leaving for an appointment? Do ye need me to watch the twins?”

I hold up my finger. “Jax is studying chemistry upstairs with his friend, Sam.”

“Yeah, so?” He shrugs, putting his hands on his hips. “You called me up from the stables to let me know he was studying?”

“Did you know Sam is short for Samantha?” I huff, flinging my arms out.

“I can’t say I did, but what’s the big deal?”

“I caught them studying biology instead of chemistry…horizontal in his bed.”

Lex scrunches his brows and a split-second later his eyes widen. “Shite.”

“Yeah, shite. And I walked in on them.”

Lex covers his mouth with his hand and silently shakes. I hit him with the dish towel. “It’s not funny! I’m scarred for life.”

“Awe, Sunshine, you’ll survive.” He pulls me into his arms and kisses my lips. “Mom walked in on me once and chased the girl out with her broom all the way down to the pier. The lass was so scared she jumped naked into the water. I was thirteen and it was my teenage babysitter…” He chuckles and shakes his head.

I roll my eyes. “Thanks for the good-ol’-days visit down memory lane, but I didn’t chase her out. I stood there like a pervert staring at them. I couldn’t move.” Lex’s body shakes again with laughter. I lean away from him, pressing my hand to his chest to push him away. “It was humiliating. I can’t believe he was having sex in our house with the kids downstairs. What if Alexis walked in on them? Imagine the endless amount of questions she would ask. Or Wyatt? He would have started crying for sure. Jesus, the least he could have done was lock his door.”

“Okay, okay, shh. I’ll talk with him, Sunshine.” He buries his nose into my neck.

“Yeah, you will, because they’re waiting in the office right now.”

“Now?” He frowns. “I was hopin’ ye and I could sneak back to our room and—”

“Lex Finlay Ryan, get your ass in there right now.”

Lex drops his arms. “Fecking teenagers.”

“Have you talked to him about using protection?”

“Yes, Love. I’ve had every talk under the sun with him.”

“Apparently you need to have a repeat course on sex-ed.”

We walk toward his office and open the double doors. Jax and Sam are fully dressed, sitting in the two chairs in front of Lex’s desk. Samantha looks over her shoulder and her cheeks bloom crimson.

“Fuck, Jax,” she mutters. “Your dad is home? I am officially dead.”

Jax doesn’t answer her, choosing to stare intently at a spot on the floor. His knee bounces manically up and down. Lex sits down in his chair while I lean against the wall. He smiles at Samantha, who immediately looks down at the same spot Jax is so interested in.

“What’s the craic?”

Samantha looks from Lex to Jax, her lips parting. “Um, Mr. Ryan sir, we weren’t smoking crack.”

“It’s an Irish expression,” Jax whispers. “He’s asking what’s the story.”

Samantha looks thoroughly confused, and I have to bite my lip to keep from smiling. Irish slang has been challenging to learn for this Tennessee girl, especially when Lex and Connor go back and forth. I’m completely lost when the whole family gets together.

“I heard you two were found in a compromising situation. Ye’ve made a right bags of this, Jax.”

“Da,” Jax groans, his face flushing.
