Tao, her ex, wants to marry her. Yeah, I don’t have a problem with that.

Yes, you do.

His wolf hated the idea of the two sneaking around to find Garth. The idea filled him with pure rage. He struggled with that. If he wasn’t staying, it wasn’t wrong for her to find someone who would stick around.

He still hated the idea. She was still his mate. And he didn’t want to see her with another man. He didn’t trust anyone with Eliana. Not even Tao. He didn’t know who the guy was, and he didn’t want to know.

Tao’s intentions with Eliana were to marry, but Lucas couldn’t say that Tao wasn’t like Garth. Lucas would keep his eye on him. Lucas had full intentions of crashing their get-together. He wasn’t leaving anything to chance. So, he slipped his phone into his pocket and headed out the side door leading to the resort’s clubhouse.

Tao and Eliana had just parked in the course’s visitor lot next to the clubhouse. He stopped and watched her climb from the vehicle. She wore a long dress that blew in the wind. Her lovely arm was raised, holding a hat on her head.

Tao was laughing as they stepped out, and she smiled at him. His stomach tensed. He hated how close they were to each other.

“So, golf?” Tao said, shutting the jeep door.

Lucas gripped his hands into fists and took a few deep breaths. He needed to get his jealousy under control. Just because he didn’t know Tao, it didn’t give him permission to be an asshole.

Eliana nodded and turned. She froze when she spotted him. He gave her a wave and smiled.

His hotel reservation also included access to the golf course. He could take up to three other people, and he could get a golf cart.

“Lucas, what are you doing here?” Eliana looked at him, shocked. He didn’t know why. The chances of running into him were high since he was staying at the resort.

Sure, he did this on purpose, but that wasn’t the point.

“Hey.” Tao smiled at him. “Fancy running into you.”

He smiled at Tao. “Well, Eliana said you guys were going golfing, and I figured why not? Do you mind if I join you?”

Eliana’s eyes narrowed at him, but before she could say anything, Tao nodded, giving him a bigger grin. “Hell, yeah. The more, the merrier. I was just about to get us a cart.”

He waved a hand. “Just tell them my room number, and it’s free.”

Tao gave him a thumbs-up before heading inside. He looked at Eliana, who scowled at him. “Why are you here?”

“Maybe I wanted to play golf.”

She frowned, crossing her arms. “No, you didn’t.”

He shrugged. “Either way, I’m here.”

She sighed, rolling her eyes. “You didn’t have to join us.”

“Was I just supposed to leave you with Tao and call it good?”

She tilted her head, studying him. “Do you have a problem with Tao?”

“No,” he said quickly. “If he’s going to be the alpha, I should make sure he’s fit for the position. Which is why I’m here, isn’t it?”

He didn’t want to admit he didn’t like Tao. Mainly because the newcomer had been nothing but a nice guy since he arrived. Lucas knew most of his issues were because he was jealous.

“Man, you must have a sweet package deal because not only did we get a cart, but we have full access to the golf course.” Tao came bounding back like a giddy child.

Eliana looked at him like he was crazy when she noticed the large bucket of golf balls and the three sets of clubs.

“Shall we?” Tao said, waving a key.

“I’m driving,” Eliana said, reaching for the key.
