“She is not one of us Ghost,” a fact that drove him and his wolf insane. “Draven punished me severely for interfering that last time. I can’t. I won’t have that happen to you.”

As she stared up at him, her body bristled with defiance, refusing to back down. As the daughter of the last Alpha, she brimmed with untapped energy as she met his stern glare with defiance.

“I promised to protect you when your father died, I intend to do that” they both ignored the fact that her father’s death had been by Hyde’s hand. That he had taken her on as a child out of guilt at having orphaned her.

“You might have infected her Hyde,”

His breath stopped, his fingers tightening around the glass.

Her voice was low as she leaned forward. “And Draven is using that, or something like it, to control her, to force her into his bed,”

His wolf howled in denial deep within him as the glass shattered in his hand.

“Fuck” stepping away from the broken glass and the brown liquid running across the bench and dripping to the floor. Hyde grabbed a towel.

Ghost scowled at him, shaking her head in disbelief. “For someone who seems to care, I can’t believe that you’re willing to do nothing,”

Hyde’s fierce gaze locked onto his adopted daughter as he wiped down the mess he had created. “We move against Draven and pack members die. Who are you willing to let die? Valentine, Mammoth, Scythe? Who’s death can you live with? Who do we sacrifice to rescue one girl?”

“Even if you infected her?”

“If she is to be one of us, she will make her way to the pack, under the moon” he could feel the lie clog his throat. Draven’s plans for his bride would never allow her to escape him that easily. But he forced himself to meet Ghost’s eyes.

“The Doc will take the fresh supply in and you will go to camp,”

With a smile, Ghost rolled her eyes.

“Doc is already at camp” picking up the cooler with one hand, she bent to grab her backpack with the other. “He left hours ago. So I better drop it off on my way. “

Without waiting for him to answer, Ghost turned for the door.

With a mixture of pride and apprehension, Hyde watched her walk across the room until she finally reached the door.

“Be careful my Ghost, there is an inquisition spy amongst Draven’s court. Until I have found them, I need you in and out. Don’t hang around,”

“Stop worrying, you might grow a grey hair” blowing him a kiss she stepped out without a backwards glance, the large doors swinging closed behind her.

THE BLACK AND SILVERsuitcase lay open on the bed. Staring at the assortment of gowns and dresses that Draven had brought her since she arrived, Talia sighed. What she was craving right now was a pair of comfortable jeans. Maybe a big sloppy T-shirt.

The closest thing she had to jeans were the red leather pants that Hyde had insisted she wear in what felt like a lifetime ago. So much had happened since then.

She hadn't heard a word about Ghost since she had dropped the Lycan back at the clubhouse. But like how she hoped for Hyde that no news was good news, all she could do was wait.

Wait and stare at a wardrobe packed with clothes, trying to think past the pair of the leather pants that sat alone in the suitcase.

She should be more excited than she felt. She was packing to get married. Her wedding dress was already wrapped and packed in a separate matching suitcase by the door. Everything was finally coming together. She should be over the moon. She was getting ready for her wedding and the honeymoon was to follow.

But standing in front of the wardrobe, frozen with indecision. Her fingers lifting to caress the silk of an expensive dress. Her heart was pounding fast.

It was as if everything was on fast forward. Spooked by the attempt on her life, Draven insisted they leave for his lodge. His secret mountain home where the wedding would now take place, far away from any hostile eyes.

Far away from friends and family. With her grandmother still missing and her parents far too vulnerable, she was going to get married alone. It was not what she had ever envisioned her wedding day would be. Forcing herself to lift the black silk dress out of the wardrobe, she moved to the suitcase.

She was only ever going to have one wedding day, and she was determined that witch hunters were not going to destroy her happiness. She and Draven were fated to be together.

She delicately folded the dress, trying her best to prevent any unwanted creases during the journey. She had never owned anything made with such exquisite material.
