“make your fate mine as we did so long ago,”

Moving through the garden, away from his touch. Talia made her way back to the high railing of the rooftop balcony. Her fingers wrapping around the cool iron tightly. Her eyes staring down across the city lights.

“I changed my entire existence not to lose you.” His steps were slow and even behind her as he stopped near a flickering brazier. His hand hovering over the dancing flames. “Giving up being human and becoming a vampire so I could share your long life by your side.”

Her whole reality was spinning. Everything she thought she knew about who and what she was becoming a chaotic mess in her head.

Turning to look at him, Talia kept her hands on the rail behind her. He stood, a shadow in the dark. “You were not supposed to die.” His head bowed, he kept his eyes intent on the flames under his palm.

“Not a day has gone past that I havn’t mourned you. havn’t rallied at the gods that took you away from me so soon,”

Looking up at her, his eyes glinting in the flickering light. “But I have never regretted my choice. I knew you would return to me one day. I knew all our plans would reignite,”

Opening her mouth, she closed it again. What does a girl say to that? He was a stranger. A dangerous stranger yet when he had kissed her. Her whole being had responded.

“I don’t want to be your prisoner,”

“Then be my guest,” stepping forward. He moved towards her. His eyes intent on her face, “let me court you. Let me make sure your safe. Trust me just for a little while.” Standing in front of her, he reached for her hand. “give me a chance to show you how good we can be together,”

Frowning up at him, she sighed.

“How much time?”

His face lighting up with a smile. He brought her fingertips to his lips. Kissing them gently.

“Give me until your twenty-fifth birthday,”

Meeting his eyes, all arguments left her head. She would be twenty-five in almost two weeks. If he meant everything he said, it wasn’t really that much time. Meeting his eyes. She shivered at the need that, even without her powers, she could see radiating from him.

“Your word that you will free me on my birthday?”

“Only if you ask me too” his voice was low. Filled with seductive promise.

Feeling her skin flush with heat, she nodded.

“Until my birthday then,”

MOVING THROUGH THEbackstage doors, Hyde made his way to the bar. The few wolves that ran security here stepping out of his way. Heads nodding with respect as he moved past them.

His eyes were still red with his rage. His fingers, no longer claws, were still coated in blood.

The stripper on the stage nearby refusing to look his way, her fear a tease to his already enraged senses. His voice little more than a growl, he ordered a whisky, causing the human sitting nearby to move without looking at him.

Downing the whisky in one swig, he ordered another. His anger almost a palpable force filling the surrounding air.

Stepping up next to him, Valentine tapped the bar for his own drink to be poured.

“What are you doing here?” Hyde growled the words out around the shot glass at his lips.

“I would ask you the same thing,”

Shooting him a glare, Hyde picked up the bottle that the bartender had left in front of him before retreating to the other customers.

“You know why I am here,”

He had spent most of the afternoon closed up in church with his men. Going over the last three weeks of business to catch up. Everything from drugs, guns and girls. Not to mention the legitimate business that they ran. Valentine had heard the same updates he had.
