“Faster, please,” I said.

My words represented the last reassurance Gabriel needed. He increased his movements both in speed and depth. But it didn’t take long for us to succumb once more to the euphoria of our love.

We lay in bed, savoring the afterglow, when Gabriel noticed the engagement ring. “Is this from future me?”

“Yes, it is an engagement ring. It’s usually given before a wedding. You wanted me to experience a modern American wedding, so you gifted me this one.”

“My future self is quite thoughtful. Should I be jealous?”

“Never. For you are one and the same. Riches can be found everywhere and during any time period, but there is only one Gabriel.”

“And there is only one Milady,” he said and gave me a peck on the lips.

The next morning, I woke up in what seemed like a fairytale. And though a medieval version, the fairytale made me very happy. Except there was no coffee. Why couldn’t I have both?

After breakfast, I went to greet my sweet friend, Vincenta von Goat. She still lived her best life. I did my diligence, and I petted, snuggled, and told her everything I did in the future. Her response didn’t differ from previous ones, but I felt heard. Then, she turned and looked at me with sad eyes. “Do you need more cuddles?” I rushed to hug her.

Unfortunately, Gabriel came and interrupted our bonding. “I believe it is time to visit other friends as well. You know, the ones who can talk.” He smiled.

Even Gabriel didn’t understand our connection, but I couldn’t fault him. The rarity of such bonds made it difficult for him to comprehend. “It’s okay, Vincenta. I’ll come to visit you again. You continue with your meal,” I said as I petted her one last time.

“Who are we visiting first?” I asked.

“Solomonarul and Teodora,” Gabriel said as we walked toward the stable.

The moment I mounted the horse, I remembered how out of shape I was. The pain made me cower.

“Has it been that long?” Gabriel asked.

“I hoped it would be similar to riding a bicycle, but no, I was wrong.”

“A bicycle?” Gabriel asked.

“Oh, I cannot wait to teach you how to ride a bike.” I grinned ominously. And I believe I saw a shiver cross Gabriel’s spine.

“Sometimes, I sense an unpleasant feeling when you speak modern.”

“It’s called dread of the unknown. But don’t worry. The longer we live, the more interesting it will become. Have you heard of the word ‘prank’?” I asked and urged the horse to a gallop.

“I believe I have not.”

“You will find out about it soon enough,” I yelled as the distance between us increased.

Apparently, the response didn’t satisfy Gabriel, so he mounted his horse and rushed after me. “Tell me what prank means?” he yelled, fighting the gusts of wind.

“No.” I laughed, enjoying every moment of his confusion.

“I demand an explanation,” he said.

“Only if you can catch me,” I said as I turned to him. The glint in his eyes made me realize he had accepted the challenge.

We both galloped at incredible speed, but to my dismay, Gabriel got fairly close to me. I urged my horse once more but to no avail. He grabbed me and dragged me onto his saddle, then slowly stopped the horse. “Are you going to tell me what it means?” he asked, peering deep into my eyes.

“And how are you going to make me?” I asked, pretty confident of myself.

“Ah, but there is an effective method I could use.” His eyes exuded mischievousness.
